In February, my brother is getting married and I'm treating him to a 3-day beer tour. On the first day, we're traveling to Three Floyds. From there, we're going to Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

When we leave Three Floyds, we're taking 196 up to Grand Rapids. My question is simple, any GREAT bars or breweries on or near our route to Grand Rapids?

i would hit Chicago since it's only 30-40 minutes away. i think Half Acre, Revolution, a stop at Binny's and pint at Goose Island is always well worth it. maybe start your trip off with that. is New Holland on the way up there? or Kuhnhenn?

Traveling up 94 towards 131 you will be very close to Greenbush, The Livery and Paw Paw. Depending on the taplist all three could be definite stops. Bell's has been running a lot of cafe exclusives as of late.

196 is not my preferred route for beer, Greenbush and The Livery could still be hit with slight detours. Saugatuck may be worth a look as well as the previously mentioned New Holland.

When I make the haul out to Founders from Chicago I hit 3floyds, green bush, dark horse, and bells. Green bush is usually the lunch stop for their amazing beef brisket. Dark horse is kind of out of the way but the brew pub is a favorite and also has great pizza.

In Grand Rapids I highly recommend Brewery Vivant and Perrin.

Virtue Farms is a short drive away from Saugatuck, and worth a stop if you like cider. You will also be passing White Flame and Pike 51 in Hudsonville, and Osgood Brewing in Grandville.

Honestly I think the only places worthwhile are bells and hopcats, perrin is good as well.

Greenbush is good, and New Holland is a must stop.

18th Street Brewery, Shoreline Brewery, Green Bush, The Livery, New Holland. I'd say 18th Street and The Livery are must stops.

Mission: Three day bro down brew trip.
Corridor: Three Floyds to the GR.

    What I would do:
D1: Three Floyds --> Shoreline --> Greenbush --> The Livery --> Odd Side --> Holiday Inn DT GR
D2: Grand Rapids Brewing for lunch (they open at 11:30) --> Perrin --> Odd Side --> New Holland --> Our Brewing --> Pike 51 --> White Flame --> Vivant for dinner --> HopCat for drinks
D3: Founders for Lunch --> Latitude 42 in Portage --> Bell's Eccentric --> Three Floyds for dinner -->disappear.

The most accessible to I-196 are Greenbush, Saugatuck, New Holland and Our Brewing, two doors down from New Holland. After those four you will be ready for GR.

I like big lake brewery better then our brewing co but if you are going to new holland it is 2 buildings down to our brewing. Check out 8th street grill, best tap list besides hopcat.

One other place that I'll suggest is in downtown St. Joe is The Buck Burgers & Brew. It has an extensive tap list and good pub-style food. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/31200/view=beerfly

If you decide to go to The Livery, then this place is fairly close by to it.

One Trick Pony is just a few minutes from FFF. Good beers, good atmosphere, and friendlier people than Three Floyds. Not that I'd choose it over FFF, rather I'd choose it in addition to...

I would say must stops are greenbush, journeyman (great spirits), oddside, founders, hopcat, and pyramid scheme (I love pinball). Maybe stops are 18th street, shoreline, livery, tappistry, new holland, saugatuck, bells, vivant, and perrin.
