Are Nelson too unapproachable for your average joe?

    Sounds pretty good. I think you'll get the nelson, but also get that nice juicy peach/orange/mango from the amarillo and citra.

    I'm biased though. I don't think ANYONE can go wrong with Citra and Amarillo together though.

    sounds great to me. re: beer-drinking-wedding-going public, i think the main 2 points are:

    1) keep the IBUs down, and
    2) don't call it an IPA.

    perceived bitterness seems to be the #1 stumbling block for non-craft drinkers. also, craft is high profile enough now that if you say "IPA" they hear "bitter." even if you said "low bitterness IPA" it might make the beer too bitter for them, immediately.

    I am lucky enough to have access to a commerical beer that only uses Nelson's to 90 IBU's and tons of dry hops. It is overwhelming but in a good way. Really reminds me of columbus mixed with amarillo...

    I'd say at that extreme it is pretty well out of the average joe's realm of drinking options. At lower usage I think it is well within.
