Yes, and let's also not equate Pilsners to the IPAs with watermelon and mango added to them. A well-brewed Pils is about as far from a fruity IPA that one could get.

Also, Stone did just come out with an "Enjoy By Tangergine IPA"...not exactly watermelon/mango and it's not added to Arrogant Bastard...but still.

I'll give Stone the benefit of the doubt and try almost anything they put out. That being said, I'm actually looking forward to trying this one. The 16 oz. cans are awesome!

Just finished off a 1/6 barrel of Victory XX anniversary imperial pilsner @ 8.5% ABV all our customers loved it .......a heavy hitting pils is a blast ....I would bet a 6 pack of Busch light Stone has it right.

In stone's defense, pilsners/lagers are making a comeback sales wise -as in a growing segment in craft

You should never have to defend a brewery for releasing a Pilsner.

As far as I'm concerned, the more lagers, the better!

That being said, the can design is truly hideous, from a company that I've come to expect better from.

I think the style just has a bad wrap for many? I know when I was still a beer novice I figured all Pilsners would be like Miller Lite.

    Here here!!

Although known for big and in your face, Stone's Gotterdammerung Anniversary release was one of the best beers they have ever made (to me) with distinct German characteristics (I'm not advanced for the northern/southern discussion). They will do this one proud.

I can't remember who summed it up so cleverly, (yes I do, it was me) but here is the backstory:

For far too long the tyrannical industrialized beer overlords have disgraced and cheapened the noble heritage of the pilsner with their relentless multi-generational downward drive to commercialized homogenization. Over decades, this once vaulted style has been slowly and methodically gutted, bringing forth a soulless and anemic result, all the while spending billions in advertising to convince the unwitting public that their fizzy yellow end result was beer. Well, I will not have it. We are striking back for true craft by stealing the pilsner back from their evil clutches, and restoring it to its almighty glory. They do it cheaply. We do it right. Choose vapidity, or choose righteousness...but whatever you do, choose wisely.

    National distribution starts Monday: http://bit.ly/WhoYouCallinWussie

National distribution begins next week. So while some of your friends in Southern California may have been lucky enough to find it on shelves starting a few days ago, you'll start seeing back East pretty soon. We'll be sure to post our beer finder link once beers start showing up across the country.

Those beers are as much a Pilsner as a Helles or Kolsch is; being derived from something isn't the same thing as being it. Great noble Pilsners never went anywhere. Maybe you just have to know where to look.

That being said, I welcome all potentially tasty newcomers with open arms. Just realize that there's lots of competition out there .

Michael, you are correct. it is a shame that some beer drinkers associate the term of "Pilsner" with the mainstream beers which are American Adjunct Lagers. Maybe Miller deserves a lot of blame here by having the gonads to use "Pilsner" on the label of Miller Lite? I really don't know.

What I do know is that Bud/Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Miller High Life are AAL beers and they are not Pilsners.

    Cheers!

Good Pilsner but sure would like to see the price come down a bit. $10 for a 16oz six pack is more in line with the SoCal market.

6 pints for 10 dollars is a freakin score!!

I mean I would happily pay that.

Yes, national distribution is underway. You can use the beer tracker on this page to help locate it near you. It hasn't quite reached everywhere just yet, so if you punch in your zip code but it doesn't show any results, try back every couple of days until it does.
