Going to have to explore Whistle Hop. Find very little about it online, but lots of very high marks on Untapped. Still can't find any info on hours or days of operation.

Whistle Hop not officially open yet, they are planning an announcement soon, currently working at getting their Caboose in place, which will be their tasting room.

    Nice comprehensive list!

I have often thought about doing something like this ( though I was going to rank and put comments), but i'm way too lazy.

I'm poking at it a bit, adding the year it got off the ground, phone, webpage, maybe head brewer and capacity but not too much more.

Question for anyone who has visited Asheville and its many breweries, is there a "best day" to visit?

About 6 months or so ago (maybe I'm wrong) wasnt there a rumor that we were losing a brewery (at the time I was thinking LAB). Did anything come from that.

As for recommendations I will offer two that usually don't get recognized with the hot names (Wicked Weed, Burial, Sierra Nevada World). The Wedge is one of my favorite places to drink. It will likely not be the best beer you drink on your trip but it is a pleasurable place to drink. The other would be Highland. One of the best warm weather places to drink, especially now with the newly opened rooftop. They also have significantly stepped up their beer game.

Thinking about planning a quick trip for a couple of days in August. We will have the kids, so will be limited in terms of ability to bar hop obviously, but I'd like to hit 2 or 3 cool spots. What would you guys recommend for family friendly breweries/pubs for the best daytime hangout experience?

As others have said in numerous other threads, pretty much everywhere is family friendly in Asheville. Wicked Weed probably isn't the best honestly as they can be crowded, especially if the weather is nice. Wedge isn't the most kid-friendly place in the world. Other than that though its fairly wide open. I'd say ABC, Green Man, Highland, and Twin Leaf are all great with kids. I'm not a huge fan of Twin Leaf's beer, but they have a very large indoor area with plenty of games and stuff for kids (or the kids-at-heart...).

Many of the breweries have discounted pints on Mon, Tue and Wed. French Broad is $3 on Mondays, several other breweries knock a $1 off during the first part of the week. Lookout on Tuesday, Hi-Wire big top on Wed, plus others.

Recalling from memory, there was an unnamed brewery listed for sale and the only hint as to its location was that it was somewhere in WNC. Could be an Asheville brewery or in the outlying regions but apparently it's still listed for sale, so only time will tell.

Was that French Broad who was purchased by Thirsty Monk?

Doubt it was FB. Thirsty Monk owner contacted Andy at FB (who have been friends for years) and ask if it was possible to buy FB, but don't think FB was looking to sell before that.

Talking to some of the other local brewery crawlers at Blue Ghost this evening, someone had mentioned they had heard Altamont Brewery was possibly being sold. One of the local 'news blogger sites' has also speculated it is for sale.

French Broad established in 1997, with 5 full time and 6 part time employees, not a match.

Yeah, I knew French Broad had already been sold but listings are not always taken down in a timely fashion. They are the only brewery I can think of from 2000 (besides Greenman and Highland + Asheville Brewing Co/Asheville Pizza) that are still around and they seem to match the time/size.

Still think its Altamont, especially with the restaurant they purchased next door. Picture looks fairly similar to Altamont's setup as well. The only thing that doesn't fit is the founding time year since Altamont was in 2011.

But French Broad was founded in 2000, so possible that they just haven't taken the listing down.

Yep...seems they are all hitting that phase where either they adapt to the current beer scene or they get out and sell. Green Man and Highland have either transitioned or are transitioning, but ABC seems to still make some pretty ho-hum beers IMO (and their food has always made me sick every time I've had it over the years).

This has always been here too...doesn't include the spots outside of the city, but a pretty definitive list of Asheville proper. When new breweries, pubs and bottle shops are added, they automatically show up as well.
