Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting is May 31

    Asheville Rare& Wild Beer Tasting Benefits Pints for Prostates
    All About Beer Magazine and Thirsty Monk Pub Host Event During Asheville Beer Week


    Asheville, N.C. – All About Beer Magazine and the Thirsty Monk Pub will present the inaugural Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting on May 31 from 6-9 p.m. to benefit Pints for Prostates, a nationwide campaign designed to raise awareness about the importance of early detection in fighting prostate cancer.

    TheAsheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting is expected to feature hard to find beers from 24 leading craft breweries. The event will be held at 66 Asheland Ave. in Asheville during Asheville Beer Week. Tickets for the Asheville Rare& Wild Beer Tasting will go on sale on March 15 at noon. Only 250 tickets will be sold for the event and will be available online at http://www.etix.com/ticket/online/venueSearch.jsp?venue_id=9521.Tickets are $75 and include admission to the event, beer sampling, commemorative tasting glass, program and heavy hors d'oeuvres.

    “Ashevilleis one of the nation’s great beer destinations and the Asheville Rare &Wild Beer Tasting is a chance to salute the tremendous beer culture of the city,”said Daniel Bradford, publisher of All About Beer Magazine. “We want this to be one of the highlights of Asheville Beer Week and help raise awareness about an important men’s health issue by teaming up with Pints for Prostates.”
    Breweries that have already accepted an invitation to pour at the event include: Haw River Farmhouse Ales, Thirsty Monk Pub, Boston Beer and Stone Brewing Company. Others will join the list shortly and be posted at www.arwbt.com. Each brewery will pour unique beers. Some will be rare and others will be “wild” featuring Barrel Aged, Sours, Casks and vintage beers

    “Anyone who has been lucky enough to attend the DenverRare Beer Tasting that Pints for Prostates and All About Beer Magazine started back in 2009 will tell you it is one of the best beer events in the country,” said Caroline Forsman of Thirsty Monk Pub. “We want to bring some of that beer passion to Asheville Beer Week.”

    “TheAsheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting is a great way for us to reach men through the universal language of beer,” said Rick Lyke, a prostate cancer survivor, drinks journalist and founder of the Pints for Prostates campaign. “Brewers are going to be pouring some incredible rare and exotic brews. This should be a great day to be a craft beer fan in Asheville.”

    Pints for Prostates is a 501(c)3 charity. It raises awareness about prostate cancer at beer festivals and pub events. Funds raised by the group help support free men’s health screenings provided by the Prostate Conditions Education Council and Us TOO Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, which operates support groups for men battling the disease.     Only 250 will be sold for this event. Tickets went on sale on March 15 with limited promotion and already 100 have been purchased. As additional breweries are announced and the beer list becomes available, it is unlikely that tickets will still be available at the door.

    Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting brewery list is being finalized. An announcement is expected in the next few days of more breweries. A total of 24 breweries will pour rare and exotic brews on May 31 during Asheville Beer Week.

    Tickets are $75. The event is being organized by All About Beer Magazine and Thirsty Monk Pub to benefit the Pints for Prostates campaign. More than 50% of the 250 tickets have already been sold.

Proud to say that we are working with the Prostate Conditions Education Council to bring a men's health screening event to Asheville. More details to follow, but Asheville Urological Associates will host testing event on June 10 from 4-6 p.m.

    Looks like 22 amazing brews thus far, trying to bide my time in anticipation. I've only had one of the brews listed thus far (2012 BCBCS) but I'm sure someone could twist my arm to try it again. lol Really hyped about my friend Ben @ Haw River with 4 brews to sample, I'm sure they'll be great.     If you are going to be in asheville for beer week you should go to the just economics homebrew fest .... best event during beer week and only 20bucks with 50 homebrewers and over 200 hundred beers .... at wedge brewing

    How is this event being held, is it all all you can have beer event or tickets for tastings handed out? could I theoretically stand in line at Goose Island's booth and drink Bourbon county coffee stout for the three hours?

    Your admission ticket includes a tasting glass, program, hors d'oeuvres and the chance to sample the 37 beers expected to be poured by 24 breweries. No tickets required for samples. You could decide to stand at one table and sample a single beer, but that kind of defeats the point of having access to a bunch of great beers from a bunch of great breweries.

    More than 90% of the tickets have been sold, so the event is going to be sold out very shortly. More information at www.arwbt.com.
