Wife's cousin recently moved to Astoria. What bottles (fresh hops, if possible) is available that I can have her mail to MD? Don't want her to go out of her way, but hopefully some good stuff is out now, readily available. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm not sure what will actually be available in Oregon, but the following things are out in bottles at the moment

    Giglamesh Fresh Prince
    Bridgeport Hop Harvest
    Double Mountain Killer Green
    Double Mountain Killer Red
Wild Ride Journey to Planet Fresh Hop

Ft George Fresh Hop IPA will be canned early next week. Also, there's a Growler Guys in Astoria.

Looking forward to that Ft George Fresh Hop! I d OK nt know if you get it in OR (I am in WA) but the Fremont Cowiche Canyon Fresh Hop is really good.

Fremont beers aren't distributed in Oregon yet, but Astoria is right on the border of Washington, and while I'm not optimistic about his chances, it might be worth a short drive over to Long Beach, Ilwaco, etc., to see if any place has some Cowiche. I haven't been there in some time, but the area used to be pretty much a black hole in terms of finding decent craft beer around that area. So I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.

However, Cowiche Canyon is truly outstanding (at least it was last year. Still waiting to try this year's version.), and so IMHO, worth the minor inconvenience of making a short drive over the river, just in case it's available over there.

Received word from Ft. George today that 4pk if Fresh IPA are now available at the brewery, and FH Optimist and FH Suicide Squeeze will release 10/6. Buoy's FH beer should be available soon if not already. Growlers/crowlers are generally the best way to go since few FH beers are bottled/canned. Cans of Fresh IPA were amongst my favorite of last year, though, so definitely scoop up some of those.

Me too, and I was starting to get a bit concerned when I didn't see any at the store this year (or at the fresh hop event in Hood River). So this is VERY good news in my book!

I'm actually headed out to Astoria tomorrow... Does anyone know of any good bottle shops out there?

There is a home brew shop at the end of town that has some good bottles, but that's about it bottle wise. Baked Alaska has an awesome view, happy hour, and tap list. There is also some trendy cocktail bar (Trillium?) that had bottles of deGarde for $11 when I was there in August. Cool little spot. Buoy beer is fantastic and of course then there is Fort George. Their brewery bar has a lot of good guest taps too. Barley Browns, Commons, etc...

Buoy and Fort George are on the itinerary. I know that shop you're talking about. Driven past it a few times, but have never stopped. Guess I will this time. Will look into Baked Alaska. Thanks.
