So I just cracked open a bottle of Stone go to ipa, expecting that juicy citrusy deliciousness that I have quickly become accustomed to. What I experienced instead was a rush of fowl metallic repugnance, like some metal stuff just exploded and I inhaled the smoke. Just coating my mouth with nightmares. Then I opened another bottle...same deal. I'd attempt to explain more except I already drain poured both I was so disturbed. So BAers, I ask of you, wtf? Anyone else have this issue? The only other thing I can think of is that it was in the 90s all week her in San Diego and maybe the bottles got cooked...but in my experience that results in more DMS vegetable quality than robots having anal in my mouth.
Pretty sure hes not asking anyone here to do anything about it, he clearly asked if anyone had the same experience. I for one, have not, that stuff is goddamn delicious
If I'm not wrong (and I certainly can be) Stone Bottle production is all done in Escondido, not San Diego. It often spends weeks at a time over 100 degrees in Escondido so if outside temp. was a problem, Stone would have crap beer almost all summer.
What exactly does robot anal taste like? And if you put IPA after it will it sell? ISO Robot Anal IPA
All joking aside; Metallic flavors can occur from contact with bad caps, or metals in the brewery. But that would be a widespread problem, not an isolated one as your situation is. My guess is that some sterilizer residue was left on the bottles. It's unfortunate, but when you manufacture hundreds of thousands of bottles there is a margin of error. That being said, the company takes great pride in its product and reputation. You should find the batch code on the bottles and report it to them. You should also return them to your retailer, who also wants a satisfied customer. At minimum, they would offer you a replacement or refund.
Ahh sterilizer residue must be it..I don't think any natural process could have produced anything so fowl. I will indeed report it to Stone and the retailer. Thanks! Actually I am, thank you for the compliment!
Interesting! I bought a sixer of each a week or so ago and have been basically alternating back and forth and I have preferred Go To every time. I am a big fan of both breweries so no bias here (in case anyone is wondering). Cheers!
I am having my first Go to IPA right now. There is a slight metallic note, but its overwhelmed by citrus and hops taste really. Not bad tasting really
Discussing it is what I'm commenting on. It's not necessary nor productive. I don't feel that OP was trying to draw attention to himself, and I don't get the feeling that he is trying to bash this brewery, so the only other possibility that I see is that he is inadvertently creating a situation that may do some small damage to the reputation of a brewery that takes great pride in its reputation. They would be greatly appreciative to hear about this directly, so that they can do something about the issue.
