Pretty excited for this place to open up in Austin next week. They posted this picture on Twitter, which is of their outdoor beer garden. Supposedly, that wall has 103 taps on it, although I haven't counted. Oh, and 30 different types of sausage too.

What's the Rainey St area all about? I visit AUS a few times per yr but never been there. People I visit rave about it but I never get past the G'man, Opal Divines & Flying Saucer for beer destinations.

They're trying to gentrify the area. There were a few bars down there when I left Austin a couple of years ago, I think there are closer to 10 bars down there now. A number of the places look like houses from the outside. I know the beverage head, Chris Booth, and he is one of the only cicerones in Austin. He was also really invovled in getting Black Star up and running. The beer selection should be awesome.

I've lived in Austin for 5 years and I've never been to this area of Downtown... is there any parking there?

Too bad this isn't in South Austin, but it's only 2 miles from mah door, I'll have to check it out next week.

Parking is pretty rough around there, between the bars and food trucks.

Parking is not likely to be easy, but with 103 taps and someone in charge of beverages who actually knows what they're doing, its going to be worth it.

Parking is usually only a minor hassle on weeknights, if you're willing to walk a few blocks, it's there. Gets pretty rough though for late weekend nights when everyone heads over for Lustre Pearl, Bar 96, etc. Free street parking if you can find it, pay lot at the North end of Rainey St. if you want to give up and pay (think it's $5.)

You people cry about gentrifying that area as if its a bad thing. What's getting pushed out of there? Rainey had a pretty bad reputation (along with south of chavez and east of 35) as being a great place to buy heroin for much of the late 90s.

Ok, off my soap box. Parking over there can be a little tricky but it is a fun little bar scene down there now. I've eaten at G'raj mahal once and it was decent but not worth the extra long wait. I like the trees and the look of the houses too so its a nice place to hang out, albeit close to dirty sixth.

The prob with gentrifying ANY area is if the ppl who live there dont give a fuck, it doesnt work. The area will still be a gang banger dump of a place with shootings, stabbings and crack whores.

Just like up north when they try and paint over a slum, its still a fucking slum.

    /end rant.

and yeah, i work all over the city of austin, so i see all the sides.

I can't wait for this. Personally, I love Rainey street. It's an awesome place for me and mrs. Bomberking to go on weeknight date nights. I can't wait to try this place!! I work at a restaurant that specializes in sausage as well, so I'm just as excited to try that, as well as the beer!

Sounds very promising. Man that really dwarfs the place here that focused on beer & brats that just opened. Again, Arizona FTL.

The chef there was my opening kitchen manager at Flix, actually. His sous chef was one of my best line cooks at HomeField Grill, too. I'm excited for them!

Gonna try to trick... err... convince my girlfriend into going by here tonight. Will be back with a full report if fully... tri... convinced.

The only thing that will keep this from being a go-to are the prices... from pics it looks like beers go anywhere from $4.50-$8 a pint depending on make and model. God let's hope they're pints for $8.

Absolutely packed. Great tap selection including JK Drinkin in the Sunbelt and Real Ale Sysyphus on cask. 104 taps is overwhelming. 60+ are locals.

Overpriced. 9oz Stone Smoked Chipolte Porter was $5.75 ... most are in the 5.50-6.00 range. We're gonna hit them up for lunch in a week or two after it dies down.
