Hella New Year
Best place (cheapest) to grab 2019 BCBS in the San Jose area?
Sorry, it's not specific, but you can get BCBS at a lot of places in the Bay Area. Cheapest? I usually see them at the same price points (unless they have been sitting on the shelf for almost a year).
I know someone who put BCBS into a random 6-pack holder at BevMo, and was basically paying like $12 for for 6 BCBS, since the cashiers at BevMo don't know better.
I hope I never run into that person in a trading situation
Anybody have recommendations for bottle shops in the Palo Alto / Mountain View area?
I have a couple upcoming business trips, and would love to have a legit reason to check a bag on my return trip home.
Its been a while, but Jane's, in Mountain View, used to be Pretty awesome for bottles.
Palo Alto Fine Wine and Spirits. Great selection and prices. And on top of that they regularly update their inventory online on BeerMenus so you can take a look beforehand to make sure it’s worth a visit.
thanks for the tips!
K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City. Haven’t been there for a long time but I remember they used to have a really good beer selection.
I goto Palo Alto quite often on business and my regular goto is Palo Alto Fine Wine and Sprits as previously mentioned. State of Mind pizza in Los Altos had an amazing tap list last week and the food is pretty good. Check out Gourmet Haus Staudt if time permits. Cheers!
Apparently there's new Grimm hoppy stuff around the area. I picked up a couple of DIPA hazies - Gull Wing Door & Gravity of Surprise from Øl in Walnut Creek. Really liked them both, especially the Full Wing Door. Overall they compare with the top hazy producers out here.
Anyone hear anything interesting happening for SFBW? I heard they're gonna have some JREAMs at Ale Arsenal.
I have to trade in order to get any Grimm IPA/DIPA beers and even then, it is rare that I get the chance. It would be amazing if I spotted them in the Bay Area. I'll keep my eyes open, thanks for the info.
City beer posted they had Grimm yesterday.
Same with Ale Tales in Albany (East bay)
I’m hoping Heady Topper makes its way back to the area. I missed it last year.
I've been seeing the Vanilla Maple Chocolate Dark Star again. That's definitely one worth picking up. Likewise the Moonraker Deafening Silence. I'd say that's the best NorCal Stout I've ever seen get distribution.
I will tell you this. I scored a couple bottles of DS Vanilla Maple Chocolate and had one a couple days ago. This is one incredible beer. I saw multiple bottles while in transit picking up the latest release "fitness party" from ASB. Now that I've had it, I'll be back to get a 3rd bottle. It is that impressive. Didn't see "deafening silence" yet, but will check it out if I see it.
This just hit me, even though I know you were enjoying VMC Darkstar last year.
You're drinking stouts!?!
Maybe one day I'll see you getting sucked into the Saison scene
Where’d you find VMC at? I only got 1 bottle on a visit to SD. Never found any in the Bay.
I found it at Ales Unlimited. I'm headed to Seattle on Wednesday and hope to grab some while I'm there.
Lol I actually started with Saisons/Belgians back in the mid 2000s. Was addicted. But then my tastes changed and I got more into hops.
I've actually been into Stouts for over a year now, but I'm VERY particular. I hate coffee so I need chocolate ,vanilla, cacao, coconut to be added if it's a non-BA. Bourbon aged is my go to though.
They also had it a K&L Wines and Gourmet Haus Staudt. Maybe it's a Peninsula thing....
Definitely a Peninsula/South Bay thing and since I always miss the K&L listings these days, I miss out.
City beer has great notion at 1 4 pack pp.
Breakfast of leisure
Passion fruit mochi
Psst! I hate their beers but you guys would probably like this...
K&L Wines has Heady Topper and Focal Banger just added. I assume it'll sell out in next 15 minutes.
Bummer. I went to get my wallet from a car and got back...Sold out...Thanks for the heads up though!
Heady/Focal is dropping all over south bay.
Cask n Flask
K&L (only has focal left)
Should land everywhere. Need not to worry.
Update: ... and they're gone.
Also City Beer Store just got in Focal, and said Heady will get it Friday. So as mentioned, you Alchemist fans have opportunities.
Like @thuey I'm not that big on these. Focal especially I thought was kind of a malt bomb. Although I never really thought Heady was that special either. Maybe it was the hype, but after a buddy brought me a couple like 5 years ago I was disappointed. Tried them both again last year during beer week at Liquid Gold and didn't even finish them.
I always preferred the Elder.
What shops get Fremont BA bottles?? Didn't realize, love those.
Any opinions on shops for a person new to the Bay Area?
I live in the lower haight, so I usually just get some cans at Toronado, or at the Whole Foods on Market. However, I work in Menlo Park, and after reading on here, there seems to be some good Peninsula options as well? Any along Caltrain?
Thanks in advance.
Additionally, does ANYWHERE get Rothaus pils out here? Miss it! BeerMenus and Untappd make it seem like it isn't distributed out here.
For SF, I'm assuming you've been to City Beer Store? For the intersection of local craft, national craft, and international (Cantillons, Drie Fonteinen, etc), I'm not sure if there's a better SF option. Although that section has been de-emphasized in their not-so-new-anymore location.
For Peninsula, a lot of good options were mentioned in this thread:
Palo Alto Fine Wine and Spirits (Palo Alto)
K&L Wines (Redwood City)
Gourmet Haus Staudt (Redwood City)
It came to the Bay Area for about an hour today. Hopefully it comes to you also.
I love you. Is that ok to say in this forum?
One hour ago, I went to IBU and picked up a four pack of Heady and a four pack of Focal. Life is good!
I could have gotten two four packs of Heady, but I wanted to leave some from others.
I have not had Heady or PtY. I may go up and get a couple of bottles. Five tears ago, who would thought that I could both in one month.
Whole Foods in Bay Area have also been getting a ton of it. $20 a 4 pack
