New quarter, new thread.
Has anyone picked up a milkshake IPA around the Bay Area that you'd swear by and definitely recommend? I keep trying and I keep not liking. I'm about to totally give up; I worry that the lactose will make me queasy as it is.
Best I've tasted was actually one that Cellarmaker (surprise, surprise) put out on cask as a one-day thing during SFBW 2017:
CASK: Admiration IPA conditioned on Lactose, Vanilla Bean, Cara Cara Orange Zest & Harper Melon
I've tried other milkshake beers before and after, and haven't really found them to be of my taste.
I've really enjoyed the stuff i've had from Decadent ales like blueberry cream pop and double toasted marshmallow. They import from upstate NYC and seem to be on most bottle shop shelves around the east bay at least.
milkshake IPA's are not our thing (the bay area). Had some from Hapas brewing in San Jose. Had some from Alpha Acid in Belmont. None were that great. Cheers!
Have you tried dionysus brewery? They are in Modesto but distribute at k&l wines. Their milkshake ipas are good
they aint in modesto hahahhah. try bakersfield
Found Cantillon Gueze in two local shops (Whole foods). Looks like a recent shipment may have hit?
Eureka! in Concord just recently posted on Instagram that they have cans and bottles to-go (I've eaten there a bunch of times and had no friggin' idea), and a couple of bottles they posted were Bottle Logic's Fundamental Observation and The Lost Colony. One bottle per customer per day. I haven't really seen these bottles anywhere else around here.
Sho'Nuff by ghostwood brewing in redwood city is fantastic
has anyone seen Moonlight boney fingers around the bay?
Degrees Plato has it in Oakland
Thanks for the heads up all, I'll be on the lookout to try these. I just got a box of Lactaid so I'm good to go.
It occurred to me that I never saw any of the many bottle shops I follow on IG post that they got Black Butte XXX. I reached out to Deschutes directly, and they said it should have hit distro back in July. Has anyone seen it anywhere around? I like to grab a bottle every year because my birthday conveniently lags the releases by about 18 months.
how many months are in your year?
I turn 30 in early 2020, roughly 18 months after the release of Black Butte XXX.
I feel like a rookie asking this...
...do Alvarado cans hit City Beer on Wednesday’s or Thursday’s?
No stupid questions, only stupid answers
I was recently thinking the same
i looked back in my emails and it never showed up in the distributor’s inventory list.
I searched for #blackbuttexxx on IG and shops in the midwest and SoCal both showed up. Looks like I'll just ask my Chicago buddy to pick one up from Binny's.
Follow up rookie question #2: Are the Alvarado cans there when City Beer opens on Wednesday’s or do they get delivered later in the day?
Usually Alvarado st is there when city beer opens. Once in a while the delivery is late. You should be good though.
Anyone else feel like K&L's new release selection has taken a hit since the previous buyer left?
Didn’t even know that happened but I’ve noticed the same thing you have as far as beer goes.
Whole Foods, Stanyan but I'm sure it's elsewhere too
definitely 4 packs at gourmet haus staudt too
Thanks. Forgot to mention that I found some 4-packs at Bevmo the other week. They had single 12 oz bottles at Berkeley Bowl too. Not sure if they still have any, though, as it's been over a week since I've been over there.
I haven't been following Founders since CBS17 wasn't to my liking. Didn't know this was also released in 4s. How is it? I do like Backwoods Bastard. That's probably their best BA beer I've had.
I actually enjoyed my bottle of CBS '17, but I think I waited a few months before I opened it.
As for Better Half, I dug it. I was expecting it to be cloying, but I was pleasantly surprised by the restraint. It was an accent rather than a maple bomb. YMMV though.
Stopped by Berkeley Bowl West off Heinz Ave. again this weekend - seriously this has to be one of the best beer spots around. They were loaded up with all of the last couple of latest releases from Alvarado Street, Revision, Temescal, 3 Mags, Mikkeller SD, Other Half, man just so many I can't remember. Like beer heaven.
What did they have from other half?
How's ASB Left/Right Brain?
Yikes sorry I got that mixed up, I meant Half Acre.
The ASBs that they had were Nelson Baby, Strata, Haole Punch, Chiffon Fog, Logical Step, Thunder in Paradise, Raw Cuts, and the Boysenberry Brunch sour. I might have missed one.
Those are from Temescal.
Somewhat related, could I take a minute to talk about how ridiculous this pricing is?
First of all, how is a pint of Temescal West Coast IPA $9? They sell for $5 at the brewery and I imagine $6 in the back coolers at CBS. Even with the corkage fee I'm not sure where the extra $2 is coming from.
I also find the mix of 15oz and 16oz pours on their list to be maddening. Like is that extra 3 cents per pour really worth the new set of glassware and added stress on the consumer of choosing a beer?
definitely miss the old CBS
I came here just to ask about this! They must be phasing out of beer completely because they have zero beers on their new release feed and when I was at the SF location a couple weeks ago the selection was pretty sad. It's a real shame.
I am interested to see if they still do the Black Friday GI BCBS release this year or if Goose Island is finally going to give all the variants to the rest fo their accounts this year. That's the most maddening thing is CBS being the only favored account in the area by a long shot and every other account is left with a case of a single variant if that.
