Nail on the head pretty much. No disrespect to TW, but to me the most fun ones to go to are the places that have it on tap that day. So even if you don't get bottles you still get to try it. Plus you're drinking a huge beer at like 11 am, so...that's kinda fun. I mean if you have that day off then what else are you gonna do besides put up Christmas decorations right?

Seriously though, coffee is gonna be hard to find.

That's the beauty of it. If I can get a bottle or two that morning at boring ol' Total Wine, I can then go to one of the other shops that may be pouring and not feel like I have to get in line for the bottles.

Basically what I am going for. That's actually how I tried Mexican Cake for the first time, by happy accident. They were doing the BA Bottle release and had four variations on tap. I went later in the day just to try it. Sucks coffee will be hard to find though :slight_frown:

A bit of a tangential question here.

Last year Beer Study had BCBS on tap going through a coffee filled randall. It was the first time I had BCBS and it was fantastic. If anyone who has had coffee BCBS and might have been at that event I'd love to hear a comparison. A few months later I came across some bottles of BCBS (not a variant) in a shop and compared to what I remembered from having it on tap I was actually disappointed.

    '14, '15 on draught

Is it weird that they got three bottles of rare, but none of the other variants?

Since this will be my first time experiencing this beer, what makes it rare?

All I know is what is posted on the other thread:

"Goose Island Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout, which is being aged for two years in 35-year-old Heaven Hill whiskey barrels."

I assume the bolded part is the selling point.

That seems like a really high limit to me, considering most places were doing at most 4 bottle limits last year with smaller bottles. Hopefully that means they're getting a lot.

Yeah i've seen most places with a two bottle limit, I am getting there early to at least try it on draft if I cant get a bottle.

From the wording of the original post it seems that the opportunity to purchase bottles is dependent on winning a raffle. How that works exactly, I am not sure, but it seems that doesn't start until 11am

"Black Friday release of Bourbon County! We will have '14 and '15 on tap with donuts and coffee available. We will open at 9am and begin the raffle to purchase Bourbon County at 11am. More info to come on how we will do this!"

Wow. I see 14 cases. So enough for 42 4 bottle allotments. That's impressive. Didn't realize they moved that much GI stuff.

so ready. I wonder how Much the pours will be. I was expecting the bottles to be a bit more considering the hype.

This is true, but even the Glass Jug is selling the regulars for maybe a dollar more. I think I was expecting the 15 dollar a bottle range.

Has anyone checked if Beer Study is doing a raffle for the regular, or just for Rare? Also, any word on when the release is happening at Sam's Quik Shop?

The info on their FB event page seems conflicting. I saw where one person asked for clarification, but so far, it has gone unanswered.

Right, and I hope that is how it will go, but that conflicts a little with their event summary:

"Black Friday release of Bourbon County! We will have '14 and '15 on tap with donuts and coffee available. We will open at 9am and begin the raffle to purchase Bourbon County at 11am. More info to come on how we will do this!"

Or perhaps what you quoted is the "More info to come on how we will do this" info, which would make sense.

I called Beer Study and asked. They're giving out tickets, I'm assuming starting at 9 and going until ???. Then they're going to divide the number of bottles by the number of tickets and come up with the limit that way. It definitely won't be 4 I'm guessing, since 51 people on FB have already checked in as attending.

Yeah a 4 bottle limit would be impressive, given the TW and Sam's Bottle Shop have already posted single bottle limits.

This all seems pretty crazy. I got 3 bottles of BCBS and 1 bottle of BCBW without much trouble at one stop last year. think I read they made more BCBS this year than last year. Maybe this is an issue where it is getting distributed thin or demand has just gotten crazy.

I think if someone was just holding it to a 2 bottle limit that I would roll to that place.

$60 something for Rare? Does it have unicorn tears? I bet it is the best thing I've ever tried in a BBA imperial stout but good lord!

My goodness the stuggle is real this year (some sarcasm). Happy hunting and happy Thanksgiving to all!

That sucks about the TW limit. When I called in earlier today they said it was two, but their Facebook definitely says one now. I'm thinking that Sam's Quik Shop might have a two limit since they get more than the Bottle Shop. Last year the Bottle Shop was doing full 4 packs per person despite there being lots of people in line, so I drove to the Quik Shop which had plenty to go around.

Excellent event at The Oak, was able to get a glass of Regal Rye and purchase a bottle of Rare with no hassle or line.

Also went to the Oak. Enjoyed the flight and Regal Rye was definitely good. Wish I could've gotten more than a 4 oz. pour of it though. Had to pass on the bottles due to the outrageous pricing. $21 for a bottle of regular, $27 for coffee, and $95 for Rare. LOL no thanks.

They started pouring full pours of Regal Rye after 7:30 after everyone had a chance to purchase a flight.

An $30 for a bottle of Rare without the hassle of waiting in line or dealing with a huge crowd seemed fair, not to mention the extra profit was donated to charity but sure that's "gouging at it's finest"

Nice. I thought that might be the case but I had to get home to help prep food for tomorrow. I liked Regal a lot. Maybe not quite as much as Backyard, but it was close.

Honestly I agree with you on the Rare. If you're set on getting one then you're gonna pay a lot anyway, might as well do it that way. I can't do it even at $60 so I wasn't worried about it either way. But I was more disappointed that regular and coffee were so expensive. Double what I'd expect based on other reports. Which is a little rough.

Make sense, I actually passed on the regular and coffee, i'm hoping i'll find a bottle or two on Friday. Completely agree, Backyard was fantastic and edged out Regal Rye.

Anything above MSRP for the bottles they sold went to straight to charity - and a damn good charity at that. I agree it was a bit steep, but it's not like you were forced to buy em.

Cool I honestly didn't know that, I just thought the additional raffle tickets they were selling was the charity part. They probably should've been more forthcoming with that information. No one there seemed to really be on the same page about what exactly the deal was. And no, I was not forced to buy them. Hence, my deciding not to buy them.

That's fine...but it doesn't seem necessary to dump on them as in your earlier post if you didn't know or understand the event. I found the staff to be very helpful and clear on the options. Overall, a really nice event.
