Thoughts on Zig Zag? Snagged some of that and Royal Family when in town last week for a concert. ZZ isn't quite as "dank" as I was hoping, but definitely solid. Really enjoy Royal Family as well.

 

Agree. Moved to Nash from Cleveland and wasn't feeling the beer scene, but stumbled upon BI and couldn't be happier. Chasing Rainbows, Double Homestyle, and Attention please were my faves. These guys are doing things right, especially their scope and not that this stuff sits on the shelves anyways, the freshness.

 

They are awesome for sure.

ZZ is definitely a great beer, but I would agree that its not their most mind blowing offering.

 

I thought Hidden Gem stole the show on Friday until I tried the recent batch of Tunnel Vision.

You definitely get a piney/resin flavor up front on Zigzag, but it "fades" fast. Most of their DIPAs are very sneaky and super easy to drink. I've found with cans like Wabash and Red Handed that you get more of the lingering candy and resin flavors after about 2-3 weeks.

Everyone keep mentioning how awesome Chasing Rainbows is and maybe we'll "convince" them to brew it again

 

Acid Test was my favorite as well... or... tied with Wabash.

 

I've got a 4 pack of ZZ heading my way and I too have heard it's not mind blowing, but still a great beer!

 

Had another last night (my batch was canned 5/22... had my first on 6/1) and I think the additional week has made this beer better. It's certainly not a NEIPA, but it's a fantastic west-coast IPA/IIPA.

Thought it was drinking very well at the brewery last night. I think people are caught off guard by the perceived "light" flavor profile for it being a DIPA. Tunnel Vision was a juice bomb after moving on from ZZ. Love this freaking place.

 

Had my first Bearded Iris beers last night. Zig Zag, Tunnelvision, and Hidden Gem. All were really good and approachable. I will definitely be keeping my eyes out for it in Northern Kentucky when we do get some.

 

My Airbnb is located about 15 minutes walking west of BI. Do they usually have bottles/cans ready for to go?

 

They almost always have cans, but usually limited to the previous weekends release, maybe some of the weekend before if your lucky. They do have a crowlers as well and I think 6 taps.

 

No bottles (yet). Cans will be stocked in the fridge, but supply has been dwindling later in the week. Cans are released every Friday. As of now everything on tap is available for crowler fills.

Check the beer list on the website. They are good about keeping it up to date with ~ how many cases are left at the brewery. If they are out of something ask them who in town will have it in stock.

 

Another great way to get an idea of their offerings is Facebook and Instagram. They do a great job of posting their latest releases there.

 

Just saw on fb that they will have Attention Please in cans tomorrow at 2pm.

 

Stopped by there on Friday while in town for CMA Fest, their IPA's are top notch. I am not sure they are as good as some of the Bottle Logic, Monkish, Fieldworks I have had at home, but these are were great. I really used to not order IPA's in the south because they were all very mediocre to not good, but the quality has risen in the last 2 years and bearded iris is the best.

 

Maybe, most of those aren't readily available in a bar/restaurant in Nashville. If I walk into most places in Southern California I can find something much better.

 

Brought back some Hidden Gem from my visit last Friday. Delicious, and glad I brought another one back with me, but a part of me wishes I got some Homestyle too. Had a chance to try that when it made its way to Kentucky few months back, and it definitely led us to a great place while we checked things out in Nashville

Visiting Nashville so I stopped by the tap room yesterday. Homestyle was solid. DDH Attention Please had a harshness that I've gotten before from DDH beers. Grabs some Scatterbrain cans on my way out. Overall great hoppy beers and you can't beat those happy hour prices.

 

Hopburnnnnnnnnn , yeah thats a common theme it seems with some of their releases, probably needs to sit on the another week .

 

Same here. I'm routinely sitting on the new releases for 2-3 weeks. Not sure how this compares to the New England ultra freshies.

 

Yeah its from all those hop proteins and not letting them settling down . Ive heard most of those places are letting those beers sit a week longer or so then they would with a typical non hazy dry hopped ipa. Its very interesting to see the difference a week can make. Also i noticed that maybe not pouring the last 2 oz of the can helps as well as its not settling there which seems to be bitter to me.

 

I've had similar experiences. I know Trillium will let a beer sit so all the floatys drop out. Never got any hop burn from their beers

 

I always put freshies from the brewery in the back of the fridge for a week. Will drink the new releases on draft until then, and bring up the previous week's stuff to the front of the fridge. Imagine by the time the cans hit distro they are fine.

Attention Please on draft was solid.

 

I'm having to be in Nashville this weekend, and was planning on stopping by here Friday night. Anything in particular I should make sure to try? I'm from SoCal, so have only heard tell of Bearded Iris before!

 

Based on the tap list they're currently showing on their site (http://www.beardedirisbrewing.com/beers/#), I would hit Homestyle, Again & Again (two of my favorites), and Overtones (new one I'm looking forward to trying) first. Not a bad one on the list, but those are the three I'd prioritize. For a BI newbie, Homestyle is required drinking.

 

You might want to also check out New Heights - a relatively new place founded by some people from San Diego. I have been impressed so far. Southern Grist and Smith & Lentz are the other most recommended breweries and they're in East Nashville, not too far away. Bearded Iris serves half-pours and will give tasters so it's easy to try all that's on tap there.

 

My friends brought some stuff back from Tailgate a few weeks ago. They had a TON of stuff on tap, none of it blew me away, but it was all pretty solid.

 

I snagged some cans of the New Heights IPA when in town a few weeks ago and thought it was very solid. Not the NE style people are digging now days, but a very well made IPA. I'd gladly purchase again if I had the opportunity.

 

I'll second New Heights. I was very impressed with the beer and their space.

 

Southern Grist is my go to when visiting and they do half pours and crowlers as well. Bearded Iris deserves all the accolades given here and I also enjoy New Heights. Might want to check out Corsair Distillery as well, lots of barrel aged stuff.

 

Hey all. Appreciate the info being posted here. Very helpful. In Chatt for the week visiting friends - I'm the only one of this group into craft beer, so I'm not gonna be "that guy" driving around Chatt trying to score some BI cans the whole time. I think my plan is to talk the wife into a brief stop at the taproom in Nashville on our way back to IL on Sat as it appears to be right off 24. I've read this whole thread (like a good little Ba), checked out their website, and Twitter. From what I've gathered:

1. I should be able to get cans but crapshoot as to what's there - I'm good with that BTW.
2. I'll be going by on a Sat right around opening, and since they seem to release cans on Fridays, I should be in good shape.
3. If no cans, they do crowler fills from the posts I've seen on here.
4. Website says they are kid friendly.
5. Don't let Anna carry my beer out.

Anything I'm missing here or should be considering, like is parking easy? I might have to be in and out pretty quick. Also, do they fill growlers? And because I'm an inpatient Yank, any word on what the can release(s) is this Friday? Thanks and cheers!

 

All correct but #1 - you'll have a pretty good idea of available cans from their website. Enjoy!
