My wife hates beer, and always has. But, I'd like to lure her into craft beer. I'd love to hear suggestions for tasty, soda-poppy type craft beers that might do the trick. Her favorite liquids are Malbec, frozen Margaritas with no salt, and Diet Coke.

Don't do it. I long for the days when my wife would just pour herself a glass of wine instead of pilfering my Old Rasputin and Breakfast Stout.

My wife refuses to drink beer. The closest shell drink is a super sweet desert wine. Maybe try some fruit styles there are so many you might find one that's more fruit flavor than beer. Or start home brewing then you can design a beer that she'll drink.

The only correct answer is the New Glarus fruit beers

or hell if she likes root beer there is always not your fathers.

Get a hold of New Glarus Raspberry Tart, Wisconsin Belgian Red, Strawberry Rhubarb, Serendipity. Shelf beer in Wisconsin. Very easy to trade for and it's around $10 for a 750 mL bottle.

Or you could just let her like what she likes. More beer for you.

To me it would be much more enjoyable if my SO enjoyed some beers, that way you can go to breweries and what not and not feel bad about her just sitting there doing nothing.

Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is a good place to start. Have her try it and discuss it with you, then go from there.

    Don't start that! Huge mistake!
Not only will "your" beer inventory lessen, so will you bank account! Let her drink wine or soda with some liquor in it and be happy with that. I always think my wife will enjoy the chocolate that comes out in a lot of stouts...nope it always ends the same way...

Just be happy she has her drinks and you have yours. :grinning:

The obvious answer is Not Your Father's Root Beer. I also feel like some Hill Farmstead saisons might appeal to wine drinkers too (depending on where you are in NY you might be able to get your hands on some). Or if you can get her to try a flight or two she MIGHT find a style she unexpectedly likes.

BTW when I first saw the title of your post I thought it was an offer that you meant to post in the trading forum...

For fruity, "soda-poppy", I guess the New Glarus fruits are probably the best option...although I cringe describing them in that fashion. It really sells them short. Maybe try the Lindemann's options. They tend to be very syrupy sweet and they don't get much love around here, but they may fit what you seem to be looking for.

Also, if she likes wine I would suggest GI Sofie. Very effervescent, with slight wine-like flavor attributes. It is certainly beer, and no one would mistake it for sparkling wine, but there are some similarities at the margins.

You were mistaken, one beer would certainly not be enough.

My wife's reaction is the same 99% of the time. However, recently she really liked Old Chub and Tallgrass Barrel Aged Vanilla Bean Buffalo Sweat (that was a mouthful...). Go figure...

Sours and fruit beers are what finally got my wife into craft beers. I'd also recommend maybe a wine barrel aged farmhouse beer.

Why doesn't she like beer? My wife isn't a huge beer drinker, but turns out she's not much of a hop-head. Now, she doesn't like BA imperial stouts either. But a nice malty, balanced brown? Or a Scotch Ale? She'll drink that.

I like the New Glarus suggestion, except for the fact you cannot get it regularly. For something accessible to you, I would suggest you purchase a bottle of Founders Rübæus for her to try.

Also not sure how she feels about "sour" beers but I always enjoyed Lindemans Framboise before I ever really got into beer.
