Had a few beers tonight (check them out on the WBAYDN thread) and got a little hungry for a snack. Decided to have a slice of pizza, some left over Puerto Rican cuisine, and a bunch of chocolate with almonds and peanut butter. Was a great post brewski session snack. What are your go to munchies after having a few brewkis?
Pizza. Or wings. Or tacos. Or sausage. Or omelettes. Or burgers. Or Sausage Egg McMuffin. Or chocolate chip cookies. Or a burrito. Or steak. Or a ham sammich. Or pizza.
Growing up in Columbus, my preferred après Bière snack was a sack of White Castle hamburgers. There is, of course, no other correct answer.
I never would have expected that as the first answer right out of the chute. (And that comes from someone who lives in Battle Creek, the cereal capital of the world.)
I have to admit, I've hit the cereal myself, although sans-leche, like a party snack, instead of in the bowl.
Except for the fact that four or so might not be enough. We made some great small Chile Rellenos with fresh poblanos that are perfect with all beers except for hazy IPAs and Lambics; well, not really.....
Depends on the session. After a couple beers at home a big glass of water and some pretzels, a pork chop leftover from dinner, whatevers on handreally. After something like GABF, and I'm really shithoused, tacos. Always tacos.
Something salty, cocktail nuts, cashews, slim Jim’s. Just basic junk food, hell Doritos in any flavor. .
cereal is up there for sure. peanut butter straight from the jar. i've spent the winter making big batches of soup once a week so a bowl of that is my go-to anymore, gotta replenish those nutrients ya know. depending on what all i've been drinking(and what's been going on with the beers) i've been known to put away a pint of ben n jerry's half baked as well.
Lots of things will fit the bill but there's only one thing that truly does it for me: tacos. Pinto beans & cheese on a corn tortilla, preferably El Milagro brand. Usually two or three, sometimes much more.
I never understood PB just scooped straight from the jar until fairly recently. It’s hard to pinpoint why it’s so satisfying, either sober or a quite a few brews deep
Our home-made pickled hard-boiled eggs with plenty of black pepper and a handful of Costco's salted nut mix.
Nothing better than pickled eggs and Penrose Sausage to make your dog- or any sentient creature- leave the room.
It's an old bar joke and both of those things stink before they are eaten. Limburger tastes good like lots of things.
I love hard boiled eggs and Penrose sausages, my wife likes them too. Bars back home (Pa) had them for sale, they were both very popular, so there’s some truth to that joke. But Limburger, hmmm, never had a whiff, but the stench is legendary, I love cheese, unless it was horrendous I’d give it a go.
Extra sharp cheddar, cheese its, port wine tub cheese and crackers, licorice Allsorts( seriously, try it) Pringles. Had to give up the heartburn stuff, miss pepperoni and Doritos.
Depends on many factors including level of intoxicating, beer type, time of year etc but by far my favorite food with or after beer is a great cheese plate charcuterie and nice bread or crackers.
There have now been several mentions of cereal being a favorite snack. I should email Kellogg's to suggest that they put out boxes of corn flakes with Fritz Maytag's picture on them. Or better yet, Larry Bell's pic due to the proximity of Bell's Brewery to Battle Creek.
In-shell pistachios. Something about prying open each shell and digging out the tender nut inside goes well with a nice beer buzz. Plus, when I have to work for my munchies, it's a little harder to stuff my face. Like what happens with a bowl of 2 of my favorites - Nacho Cheese Doritos and Chili Cheese Fritos.
