Last year mid summer at the pub, was it regular Carob or Imperial Carob on tap?

Just cracked my first. Wow. This brew has some serious roasty, smoky lingering that hits the spot on a cold January evening.

I have a bottle from my sixer sitting in front of me now, but was just entering it into my beer list spreadsheet. I was going to chill it for dinner, but maybe I should pry that cap off now with that kind of a description.

Really liking this. At first it was all smoke/bitterness. As it warmed it really came together and tastes great. Excited for September and October releases. Really hoping Black Cherry Porter comes through this year @HopHeadHerman

Black cherry Porter, ERMAGERDNESS, Queen Bee, Woodmaster and Moher Stout.... The release schedule this year is insane. I've had my eyes on the Black Cherry Porter for some time now, just missed it at the brew pub on a trip a while ago.

Black cherry is on at the pub. I'm guessing it'll come through.

Right I believe it was on tap last year as well. However it was replaced in a variety pack because the price of cherrys was too high. Really hoping it gets bottled this year. Shorts is almost always very well priced for what u get, so I wouldn't mind having to pay a little more for it.

Hey Mothergoose I'm trying to find my way to some Shorts Brew but I have to settle for Founders so far. What is your best Shorts Recommendation. When I say settle that's not a bad thing----I'm luvn me some Founders Dirty Bastard and Founders Porter. Just not finding Shorts in Central Ohio

You won't find Short's in Central Ohio because this brewery does not distribute outside of Michigan. You'll have to drive to just over the border at Toledo to get any of their stuff. Their flagship beers are pretty good, and are easily found in grocery stores, etc. But Short's seems to excel at the seasonal, specialties, etc. https://www.shortsbrewing.com/beer/portfolio/ that are all smaller batches which don't make it to most grocery stores, with a new one released every 10 days or so https://www.shortsbrewing.com/2015-release-schedule/, and these are more difficult to get. All of the quarterly pale ale releases have also been very good. (Timing of your visit to the store for a week after release is everything.) I have liked every one of these specialty releases, so check the link for the 2015 release to see what's up next and monitor the GL region forum and you'll know what's available.

But you aren't doing bad at all with Founders Dirty Bastard and the Porter. Both are great beers.

I forgot to, get back to y'all with my reaction. This is a very tasty beer with nice mouthfeel and wonderful chocolate notes (regardless that it is carob). I still have a couple bottles of Cup a Joe, and I think I'm going to experiment with mixing these two beers in different proportions. These flavors should blend very well.

Thanks for the info--I'll let you know what I come up with (Shorts) next time I hit Toledo.

Where are you in Central Ohio? I may be driving in your area to visit family sometime in February and will bring you whatever is available that you want to try.

If you still have some Cup A Joe, and have some of the new Carob Stout, if you blend the Carob 2:1 to the coffee you get a very nice flavor of both beers. The coffee is too strong to go 1:1, but some extra Carob fixed that. In reality, both beers individually are more exciting, but the mix was pretty good too.

Something happened to my Cup A Joe, the bottles are all empty. So mysterious.

Bitter as hell, but exploding with flavor! Cheers!
