Has this happened to anyone before? Either you have a beer on draft/bottle, and then when you have it the opposite way it's completely different?

This happened to me with Dogfish Head's Faithfull ale. It was just so blah and tasted like nothing out of the bottle. On draft in Rehoboth it was fantastic, smooth and fruit forward, full of flavor.

Anything like this happen to you?

oh absolutely I was just thinking of this because of the Doppelbock thread I had Troegenator in bottle and thought it was very good but had it on tap and after my 3rd to 5th glass I thought it was too undercarbonated...Notice it took 3 to 5 glasses :flushed:

Terrible problem to have, trying to figure out why it tastes different so you have to keep drinking more......

One of the worst problems I had almost ruined me on Stouts I had Guiness and I thought all stouts were supposed to have that dead flat carbonation feel and it makes me sick. I didn't realize it was Nitro doing that to the beer but it made me stay away from stouts for a long time now they are one of my favorites just not on nitro.

Does drinking standing up or sitting down count as a different way?

I wasn't thinking of this topic being about that subtle of differences, but sure, and by sure, I mean no.

Last year I had Peak Organic Oak Aged Mocha Stout on tap at a local haunt. I was really amazed at how awesome it was. I could taste the oak and the chocolate malts and they played so nicely off each other. It was robust in mouth feel and not overly sweet as many big stouts tend to be . I went right out and bought two bottles.

The bottles were so different, you would have thought it a different beer. It was just plain bad and not oven a shell of itself on draft. There was also a fairly strong lingering taste of diacetyl that wasn't there on draft either.

It changed my mind in that I'll never buy a bottle of it again but will gladly have it on tap whenever I see it.

I do tend to notice this, but I usually chalk it up to freshness. Typically (loose term), kegs in my area are fresher than bottles. So IPA's and German imports taste significantly better/brighter when on draft.

NB Ranger: Tastes much better out of the can...and not by a slight margin.

A brewpub by me once had a dunkel on nitro. It was gross. To me beers like dunkels and hefeweizens need to have some bright carbonation to play off the tongue, without it this dunkel was just disgusting.

how about had a Founders breakfast stout for the first time (loved it) followed by ordering some online received package then going out to a bar drinking about 2 or so pints of a DIPA and then having FBS the next morning for Breakfast and it not tasting near as flavorful (I think the Dipa messed with my tastebuds)

I recall having Bell's Two Hearted about 5 years ago and ABSOLUTELY hating it. Too hoppy, too strong, too undrinkable... blah, blah, blah. Probably 2 years ago I "gave it another chance" and HOLY CRAP, would you know it, my taste buds have evolved into loving hops and bitterness.

That once horrible beer is now one of my favorites. I almost can't believe I was once repulsed.

Beer tip #288- Never stop trying new beer and revisiting old ones!

Bitburger Pils. Mediocre out of any delivery vessel that isn't a tap.

Mine isn't necessarily different based on the way it was drunk (bottle vs tap) but more of the variation of the beer. I am not a fan of sours, so Tart of Darkness isn't high on my list of beers that I enjoy... but having Tart of Darkness with Habanero in it was truly amazing. The heat of the peppers counteracted the sourness of the beer to really tie the beer together...

My friends always ordered this and I felt the same way. I had to nurse this. Now it's pretty much a session beer.

I have to tip my hat to this post because if I didn't like the base beer I doubt I would have tried one of the variants you sir are a true Beer Advocate.

Similar situation here! Tried Bourbon County Cherry Rye on tap and was almost nauseated. Tasted like cheap bourbon mixed with cherry cough syrup. Just finishing off my first BCBS right now, though, and hooooooly taste buds batman it's delicious!
