Had this beer the other day and I was highly impressed. Any suggestions for similar offerings that are out there?

Which La Chouffe did you have? If it was the brun or blonde then maybe Westmalle Dubbel or Duvel, would be similar. If you had the Houblon Chouffe then there are similar beers, but they are definitely fewer and further between. The only one I have had that I thought was close to as good was Charlevoix's Dominus Vobiscum Lupulus.

Oops. Anyway, I assumed the original La Chouffe. While different they share many similar attributes. TK is not a tripel, but is brewed with 3 grains- wheat, barley, and oats. He- the Op- is looking for Belgians and TK is a nice step to take.

If you're just talking a strong belgian pale ale, you'd have a hard time beating Piraat (in my opinion).

I had the La Chouffe, which is characterized as a Belgian Strong Pale Ale

The label on the large La Chouffe bottle says "brewed with spice". The odd label on the smaller bottle says "ale brewed with coriander". I have heard a few times on homebrewing podcasts (Brew Strong, for one) that La Chouffe is brewed with coriander and, IIRC, citrus peel. They do use a unique, proprietary yeast strain that'll add some distinct character as well.

Just based on the spicing alone, Triple Karmeliet would definitely be in the same ballpark, as its a strong, golden Belgian ale with a very apparent coriander flavor (especially on draft).

Unibroue also puts coriander and citrus peel in many of their beers. Therefore, La Fin Du Monde will have some similar qualities.

I'm sure there's others out there. Those two came to mind first when I read the post. Good luck!

I too love La Chouffe and the Belgian strong pale genre in general. If you are looking for a good US representation and one that I think you will be able to find in North Carolina you should give As Follows from Stillwater Artisanal a shot. Damn good beer.
