Overall, based on what you have consumed in your lifetime, which of these Belgian beers do you like the most and in what order? Of course there are some exceptions to this but lets discuss in generalities. Or, if you don't prefer one over the other, please say so.

Based on all of these types I've had over the past 3 years, for me its the following:

    Tripels
    Quads-
    BSPA
    BSDA
    Dubbels

I note that its awfully close between Trips and Quads, almost a tie. What say you?

    1a - BSPA
    1b - BSDA
    Dubbels
    Tripels
    Quads

The strong ales are tied. The other styles are not too far behind. "It depends." Also for me, when a beer moves over 10% ABV it tends to be less "likable." For example, Rochefort 8 > Rochefort 10

Looks like I tend to favor BSDA. Here's my list:

    BSDA
    Quad
    Trippel
    BSPA
    Dubbel

...Just realized I have not tried enough Dubbels.

Entirely seasonal for me. Right now quads and strong dark ales. When it's warm then trippels and strong pale ales. Dubbels are never my favorite, but solid most of the year.

Yeah, gotta love the guy....even after the Pulp Fiction watch scene.

I may have to revisit Joe Dirt (while drinking a Quad) after this thread:)

Not that I don't like quads, I just really like the other three. Dubbels, on the other hand, have never interested me that much.

Sounds like a good idea. But in honor of the "white trash" theme in that movie, I think I would drink something of considerably lesser quality. Perhaps a tolerable malt liquor such as Natty Daddy

I'm sorry but Natty Daddy sounds anything but tolerable.

I didn't find ND offensive at all, but thats me. Sure Daddy's Little Helper is really good but it hasn't been brewed this year. I only had it once and would like to have it again.

What's the difference between a quad and a strong dark ale?

Edit: yes, that is a rhetorical question.

3-way tie between BSPA, quads and tripels. A close second is BSDA. Don't care for Dubbels much.

    Imo BSDA's and Quad's are another Stouts/Porter.

Was just going to say this. "quad" is just a cute marketing term that some brewers use to sell their BSDA. Side-by side, you can't really tell any apart, unless you are counting some BSDA that are light enough to be a dubbel. It's all a big family though, so I don't stress it too much.

I'm pretty sure the game came before the series. Same concept as the movie but with one shaken up beer mixed in with the other five from a six pack.

True, they are basically the same thing. The only reason i chose BSDA over quad is because the majority of brews i have loved, are catagorized as BSDAs.

Really the top three can beninterchangble based on what Im feeling like on any given day. And I love them all, except Dubbel, which I still enjoy but not to the degree of the others.

Tripels are my shit, best style IMO, and so it would go around like this:

    Tripels
    BSPA
    Quads
    BSDA
    Dubbels

Belgium rules, so honestly take a rating like this with a grain of salt. I have had some phenomenal Dubbels so saying that Dubbels are bottom tier is bull

My New Years resolution is to have a definitive answer for this question by the end of Feb. As it stands I've only had a few Tripels and enjoyed them... Definitely need more Belgian experience. Suggestions welcome.
