COMSTOCK, Mich. – Bell’s Brewery will celebrate 30 years of brewing in Michigan this year.

To mark that milestone, we’re inviting breweries and our fans to the Bell’s 30th Anniversary Funvitational Beer Festival to say thank you to all of our fans, customers and partners.

It will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 at Homer Stryker Field, part of Mayors Riverfront Park and home to the Kalamazoo Growlers in downtown Kalamazoo.

The festival will feature more than 100 breweries from Kalamazoo, Michigan and elsewhere. Some of those breweries may not currently distribute to Michigan. There will be games, live entertainment and local food with all proceeds going to charity.

“We have been brewing in Kalamazoo for almost 30 years and we are extremely proud of where we got our start,” said Laura Bell, Bell’s Vice President.

“This festival is a celebration of that heritage, our community and our fans,” she said.

“We’re finalizing the brewery list now, but it was decided early on, that every brewery in the immediate Kalamazoo area would be invited,” she said.

Ticket sales info will be announced in early April. Tickets for this rain or shine event will not be available online. They will initially be released based on a mail order lottery system, and then sold onsite at Bell’s General Store and Eccentric Café.

“We want to make sure that everyone who wants to come will have a fair chance to get tickets. We also did not feel comfortable relying on a website that could be overwhelmed. We want this whole experience to be as fun and hassle free as possible,” Bell said.

Each ticket will cost $45 and will include 12 beer tasting tokens, each good for a 4 oz. pour, a special commemorative tasting glass as well as food tickets. Additional tasting and food tickets will be available to purchase at the festival.

Additional details will be released in the coming months.

    ABOUT BELL’S BREWERY, INC.

Bell's Brewery, Inc. began in 1985 with a quest for better beer and a 15 gallon soup kettle. Since then, we've grown into a regional craft brewery that employs more than 333 people over a 20 state area, in addition to Puerto Rico and Washington DC. The dedication to brewing flavorful, unfiltered, quality craft beers that started in 1985 is still with us today. We currently brew over 20 beers for distribution as well as many other small batch beers that are served at our pub in Kalamazoo, the Eccentric Cafe. Our ongoing goal is to brew thoughtfully, creatively and artistically. We strive to bring an authentic and pleasant experience to all of our customers through our unique ales and beers. $45 seems a bit steep, but I will be there.

Laura, how is selling tickets at the General Store and not selling them online hassle free for us FIBs? An aside, not quite clear on how tickets are sold at the store but then there is still a lottery system?

Hi Jaycase! We spent a lot of time talking about the best way to manage ticket sales as there have been so many ups and downs with this over the years. We really like the way the Great Taste of the Midwest handles sales and have modeled our sales structure to resemble the way they do things. The folks at GTOM have been super helpful with answering questions we have about their process. We're definitely not trying to reinvent the wheel here, but find something that allows opportunity for sales outside Kalamazoo without having to be at a computer at a specific time.

So, long story longer, we'll have half of the tickets available by mail order and then half available for sale at the General Store after the mail order has been fulfilled. Our hope is to eliminate any technical/website issues and to cut down on any scalping that may end up happening. We'll be announcing ticket sales dates and attending breweries early April. I hope that answers your question, or at least clarifies the process a bit more.

    Cheers!

    Laura Bell

Thanks Laura. Your post does clear it up. Thanks for taking time to clarify the process. Looking forward to entering the mail order lottery. Happy 30th anniversary. Here's to the next 30!

I'm unfamiliar with GTOM's system. How does the mail order lottery work? I'm guessing we input our address into an online form and cross our fingers that we are shipped an application for invitation?

Here are some details from the GTOM website for this past year's event:

And speaking of mail orders, those procedures remain the same as previously. Postmark the mail orders on Monday May 5th. Any sooner than May 5th and it will be rejected and any later than May 5th would be very unlikely to be filled as our mailbox is overflowing with May 5 postmarks in all likelihood. Don’t forget the self-addressed stamped envelope. We’ll either mail you tickets or return your check in it.

I'm sure Bell's will give specific details (e.g., postmark date, address, etc) at a future date.

You and I are on the same wavelength today. I just looked up this same information, and when I looked at the date I then realized that this date is the same as the U.P. Brewer's Guild Beerfest in Marquette. I've committed to that one as part of a week-long pub crawl up north, so Bell's fest will have to taken off of my things-to-do-this-summer list. Bummer. :slight_frown:

I'm glad to see they are doing the ticket lottery like it would have been done 30 years ago as well.

So going for a ticket system that honors your founding year of 1985. 1970's really, as that's how concert tickets used to be sold. Send in an order form and a check. It'll be like going to see Zeppelin!

Will there be any dd tickets?
I will be forced to drink 24 if not, which I'm sure I could find a way to try, should I get them.
