I had a similar experience, though I wondered how much of that was due to the bar being set so high by Two Hearted. Double Two Hearted certainly isn't a bad DIPA, but I do think it suffers from not quite living up to its little brother's lofty standards. Still a great beer IMO.

Do you think they ever considered naming it Four Hearted?

I agree with you, but I don't consider this beer to be anything like Two Heated.

In 2020 we got it at least a month after it was released here in GA, so it was a hard pass. Considering that this turns into a big mess very fast.

Would like to try Double Two Hearted, as long as they don't price it like a madman like Incessant which I passed on (f**k you, TW)

$17 a six-pack locally -- probably not gonna happen in my house.

Cheaper than the 2 pints I had at lunch the other day, but my gut turns when I know I can buy a 12-pack of something good for less than $17.

Yep, but not a mess for my taste buds. Definitely not a dipa after a couple months, but more like a barleywine , which I enjoy.

I did this today…it’s still bothering me. A brewery never tried before, traditional style so I was even more intrigued. Curiosity killed the wallet but it was only one four pack. Oh well, it’s actually a decent beer so at least there’s that.

On the topic of double two hearted I didn’t try it last year. The high abv sort of steered me away, maybe this year I’ll give it a go.

Last year, I was really surprised by how different the two beers were. I've been drinking Bell's for over 20 years and I looooooove Two Hearted, but Double Two Hearted was a complete miss for me. It's not the worst Bell's DIPA I've had, but it's definitely in the top 3 of that list.

I don't think those words were part of the jingle, other than the line with the product name, but, yeah you got it.

I doubt that most BA members would have ever heard that jingle to know the product anyway, but we old farts can reminisce.

(Wow, I just had spell check question the word 'farts' so I added it to my old codger dictionary! :stuck_out_tongue:)( Wow, now it doesn't like 'codger'!)

    Totally agree with this.

I'll certainly be grabbing Double Two Hearted when it appears. I thought it was very good fresh & even improved as it got a bit older. Even at two months it was still an excellent beer. But I don't get the lineage from Two Hearted at all.

$17 for a 6 pack of DIPAs is expensive? Seems reasonable to me. Most DIPAs I see are selling for $20+ and they are usually in 4 packs of 16oz cans.

It is to my budget -- especially when I can get a great, enjoyable beer at twice the quantity and the same price.

Sorry to be the frugal voice, but retirement can do that to you.

Saw this last year, got all excited...and then. Yes, incredibly expensive (after I bought a sixer found it for about 5$ US! cheaper at the next place). Ok, I'll pay up for beer, but then I drank it. Thought it would be twice as good as regular Two Hearted, and I do love the high ABVs, but (warning ahead) almost a drain pour. The alcohol overwhelmed everything, that's all I remember. I'll pass.

This beer seems to be a little polorizing. If you go into this thinking it’s like Two Hearted you’ll be disappointed. If you’re looking for a big, flavorful, malty, boozy DIPA…well.

Per a to-style rating, or per your personal drinking preferences?

I would definitely give DTH a try if I wasn't budget conscious, maybe I can find a single soon -- should have checked yesterday because I saw six-packs on the shelf.

Both, really. I didn't like it as per my palate and I have had many of the style that leaves it in the dust. A similar situation with Toppling Goliath Pseudo Sue and King Sue, though not to the same extent.

I'm somewhat frugal myself when it comes to beer, most of my purchases are 12-packs in the $15-18 range. I was just saying for the style, $17 is on the cheaper side of what I see in my area.

I think DTH is great. I’ll be buying at least one sixer, maybe two. Not a huge fan of Lagunitas, bet we’ll see. I’ve never had Waldo’s. I saw some in the store earlier this year and thought about purchasing. It was either old, not dated, or I couldn’t read the date code (I don’t remember which) so I passed.

I was more of a juicy fruit fan for the stick gum. For Double Two Hearted, decent beer, not as good as the regular strength and over 50% more expensive, so I’ll pass this year. Two Hearted was $11.99 and Double was $18.99 in the store I just went to.

This is barely moving in the one store I saw that had it near me. I asked them to break a sixer for the mixed section but they said not just yet but will probably do so soon, once they do I will grab one to try.

As others have said, this ventures very close to American barleywine territory. If you want to sip on something big, malty and intense — sweet up front with lingering piney bitterness — you’ll likely really enjoy this. If you’re looking for a regular IPA, it’s not going to meet your expectations.

To that end, while I probably wouldn’t cellar this for years, several months of age are no problem at all. It has a hearty backbone and loads of Centennial — a hop that has plenty of legs.

Folks can make their own decisions as to value, but I’m hard pressed to think of a less expensive TIPA/barleywine, and this one is very tasty if you’re into old school American flavors.
