I really would like to avoid traveling into DC to go to a good bar. Is there any place worth a damn within a 5 mile radius? The only place that I have been to with a decent tap list is Old Line Bistro in Beltsville. Looney's has limited selection of decent beer, but is trashy. What recommendations do you guys have?

as a Terp i can say....you're probably out of luck. You might want to try Franklin's in Hyattsville, just down Rt. 1 south of East - West Highway. not too far away. they brew their own stuff and its decent. also a bottle shop / knicknack store attached, with a decent selection.

otherwise....i got nothing for you, as close as you requested.

Franklins is your best bar bet. However, for a store Village Pump is really worth a visit.

I know it's a bit outside the parameters you mentioned, but the Meridian Pint is only 8 miles away and is a straight shot on the metro. The place is great (good tap selection, some interesting bottles, and good food), and you can probably get there within 15 or 20 minutes via the metro. Good luck.
