After reading the general thread about which breweries people wish distributed in their states, I started thinking about living in Minneapolis, with access to Wisconsin.

Aside from the West coast breweries (RR, Firestone Walker) and DFH, we really do have access to SO many coveted breweries (Surly, TH, FFF, Founders, New Glarus, Deschutes, Oskar Blues, etc.)

Not having explored other parts of the country for beer, can anyone vouch that we may have one of the best overall selection in the eastern MN/western WI area?

I was informed this week that the Twin Cities is creeping up on being the #2 draft, craft beer market in the USA. That on top of the fact that we do not have liquor in grocery makes this a hot market for independent breweries to enter. Small breweries (such as Tallgrass, Odell. etc.) chose to skip over larger markets such as Chicago and Wisconsin to enter MN first. Small breweries enjoy the fact that they do not have to enter into negotiations with big box or large chain accounts to gain a good distribution footprint in MN. Small breweries can "high-spot" a few high volume, indy liquor stores in the Twin Cities and sell a hell of a lot of beer. It is good to be a craft brewery in MN right now.

It's pretty damn good from what I have found in my travels. I can't think of too many other markets that are better when you add in our access to Wisconsin. Philly, New York, Boston and San Francisco might have us beat for distribution, but there aren't many others. Seattle and Portland are similar markets from what I found. They have Russian River, Firestone, Hair of the Dog, Midnight Sun, and other west coast stuff, but those are balanced out by our access to FFF, Founders, Bell's, Surly, New Glarus, Central Waters, etc.

So if I read that right, we are the number 2 market for craft beer draft accounts?

I think we have one of the most under rated beer regions in the country
