    Hey Folks,

Headed to LA for a 3-day weekend for a wedding. Im not in the wedding but my fiancé is, which means she'll be busy and Ill have time to spare. So, Ill be looking for local beers to sample. Any good suggestions? Ill be in the Brentwood area but dont mind a short drive

    What beers you into?
Are you driving your own car?
    What's your range?
Are you looking for on tap, bottles, breweries, brewpubs or just good beer spots w/ food?
Have you considered bringing local beers to setup in person trades?

Yeah Ill be driving. Id prefer to keep it in LA proper and not veer into OC (I'm hitting OC on the way back home to SD on Sunday). Id say that breweries and taps would be my aim but Im certainly open to any good brewpubs that have a good variety (bonus points for good food). I hadnt really considered the trade option only because the wedding takes priority so Id need to plan my beerventures outside of that stuff.

HpB would be my first choice if you want to stay closer to the LA area.
Otherwise head south to Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach.
    Mumford for choice #3.

Where are you planning to hit in OC on your way back to SD?

And those 3 mentioned aren't necessarily the Best Beers in LA. You have to be more specific. Like @Frosty11161 said....style preference are you into, etc? Those 3 are pretty much the top 3 dogs in my book for brewery's in the LA area. I've probably left out one or 2. Maybe 3. Oh yeah.....Monks. LOL.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Im predominantly a stout/porter guy but Im open to pretty much anything, although Im not easily impressed with IPAs most of the time (but willing to give a good one a whirl). When I venture back through OC, Ill hit Bottle Logic and maybe Bootleggers and Bruery.

    Ever been to Dry River?

The sours sound good, Im not huge on IPAs though. Are they well-made or is it hops thrown into a subpar beer?

If you were into sours, Cellador has been doing great stuff (though taproom is currently closed while they get up to code) but you can pickup bottles you buy online at the brewery (maybe 15 minutes north of where you're at), just be sure to email ahead of time as its a small crew, and festivals mean no one is there to fulfill. A bit further up the coast you have Casa Agria who's made some really solid sours and hazy ipas.

If you looking for brewpubs Blue Palms in North? Hollywood is a good spot, with Hermosilo (aka Highland Park Brewery) further to the east, and last I checked still had 3 bottles available to go. If you go south Firestone Venice & El Segundo (ESBC allows outside food) can get your stout and IPA game taken care of. Not a huge fan of Firestone sours myself.

Further south in Torrance you have Smog City who, almost criminally, always has some of their best beer sit in the fridge as Monkish across the street usually hogs the spotlight. Beachwood being close to an hour away might be outside your realm. Smog City Steelcraft (off Long Beach blvd & Bixby) is a great alternate location, cool vibe and variety of food.

I always take my friends, whom its their first time, on the brewery tour...

Protip - It's just walking out to the shed in the parking lot and going "that's it".

I'm slightly disappointed you haven't come up with a handle for Green Cheek yet...

Top Breweries in LA by area:

South Bay(Torrance): Smog City is a must! Great Variety of IPA's, Dark stouts and Porters and incredible, fun sour stuff to try. Also as mentioned above, great varieties in bottles to go. Monkish: Super Popular Hazzy Hoppy stuff, great wild saisons and sours. Hopsaint for solid beer all around and great food. El Segundo Brewing: The hoppiest of them all and fun Barrel-Aged stouts!

Downtown LA: Mumford Brewing. Solid variety of Light, hoppy, dark, Barrel-aged beers. Arts Disctrict for a fun environment and Devon has a solid and varied beer list to try. Dry River Brewing: They are doing super fun and experimental beers over there!

North of Downtown: Highland Park Brewing! Everything is exceptional there!

Long Beach: Beachwood Brewing: Award winning beers and great BBQ food. Smog City @ SteelCraft: Same great, killer beers from Smog and awesome outdoor beer garden with great food selections(all out of repurposed shipping containers). Long Beach Beer Lab: New brewery experimenting in Hoppy, hazy, and wild saisons. They bake their own bread and have nice pizza!

Love the Cheek. But it’s not in the LA area.
Hard to say best beer. Right now it’s Hello LA for me. But tomorrow is another day. And 2018 is right around the corner.
