I enjoy looking at the top 250 list, and going down to a local store that carries a wide selection of beers (often BevMo) to find it. However, that can be a hassle, and sometimes I just want to find a quality 6 pack while I'm at my local big name grocery store, and of course you're not going to find Pliny the Elder at Vons!

So, what I'm looking for is a list of the best beers you're likely to find when you're out grocery shopping and want to pick up something good. Personally, I usually just go for something by Stone or Lagunitas because I know I'll like it and it's readily available in my area (Los Angeles). There are even some belgians sold at my Ralphs (La fin du Monde for instance). Still, I want to branch out without being disappointed in buying a random beer that doesn't measure up.

The best way to do this I think would be able to sort the rated beer list by total reviews, as the most reviewed beers are probably more widely distributed. Maybe set a filter to sort by rating for all beers with >10,000 reviews? Any other tips? Thanks!

A few of our grocery stores still have 2013 abyss and now that 2014 is out they marked them down to $10.99

Giant eagle in the Pittsburgh area does a nice job at some of these locations. Shaler, edgewood,Cranberry and greetree have a very nice selection for a grocery store. I found some beers that I was surprised to see.

Best bet in LA I have found is go do your grocery shopping at Trader Joe's if you are going for Alcohol. There are a few really big ones that have good selections. If I am at CBS Radford, I tend to try to go into that TJ as it has a better selection than the ones near me.

My Ralph's a block away has decent selections, mostly Stone, Unibroue, and Lagunitas, but it has a decent selection of sixers or bigger crafts and decent foreign.

Out of beers I have actually had, Founders Centennial is about as good as it gets around here as far as the average grocery store.

Stone, Deschutes and Lagunitas are always available in my local grocery stores. If you can find those in Iowa, you can usually find them anywhere.

The "Beers of Fame" list used to be loaded with pretty "regular" beers, but now its stocked with many of the things in the normal top 250.

But to answer your question, to me, the best beers available in grocery stores are usually Stone IPA (or other Stone hoppy beers) and Sierra Nevada Torpedo. Particularly Torpedo, because it is available nearly everywhere that sells beer. And the more beer I drink, the more I appreciate the greatness of SN Torpedo and Stone IPA.

The best that is readily available at my local grocery is Double Jack or DFH 90. Occasionaly they'll have 22's of Hop Shortage or Hoparillo. They also will have just about any Lagunitas or Sierra Nevada you may want.

I live east of LA, about one hour, usually hit a few different markets when shopping, when I just want to throw a six-pack in the cart it's usually Sierra Nevada Torpedo or Celebration, Firestone Walker Union Jack or Double Barrel Ale or Deschutes Black Butte Porter or Mirror Pond Pale Ale. Most of the time I reach for Firestone Walker.

Almost every Wegmans I've been to around the Philly area has a selection (of singles, four-packs, & six-packs) that rival some of the best bottle shops in the area. I won't give you a list of great readily available beers because the list would be rather extensive. I love Wegmans.

Pretty much every grocery store in Michigan carries Founder's full year-round, seasonal, and specialty lines, which include FBS, FIS, Porter, etc. Only things they don't typically carry are the "limited" line (KBS, Backwoods) and the Backstage beers.

In LA, depends where you shop. Some markets have a better beer selection than others.Firestone walker, stone, Karl Strauss, Golden Road and Lagunitas are found at grocery stores. Where are you in LA? there are plenty of craft beer places all over the place.

Ommegang 3 philosiphers in huge bottles for 8.99, most Wolavers offerings, almost all the otter creek seasonals, all of the long trail and harpoon you could ever want, and McNeill dead horse ipa. That's pretty damn good. I feel lucky.

It is illegal for supermarkets in Australia to sell alcohol. Don't know why I'm still here.

The Stop & Shop near me is carrying Sixpoint Crisp and Bengali, Brooklyn Lager and IPA, Founders All Day IPA, Captain Lawrence IPA and Sierra Nevada IPA.

Living in Rockland I suppose that the Sixpoint, Brooklyn and Captian Lawrence would be considered "local." It's still nice to see them there.

Two Hearted Ale, it's in Walmart, every grocery store. Ruination in some, 2xipa, all SN stuff, Sweetwater, really too much to name.
