You would be hard pressed to find better vertical building beers than Expedition Stout and Third Coast Old Ale from Bell's.
Then again, I am currently drinking an '09 Old Stock Ale which is making a compelling case as well.

Just think it loses a lot of its composure I guess. Here is a little more detailed review...

I haven't had one with age on it for a while, but before I did I saved some from 2011. So, I have a little vertical from when I started a cellar. I plan on drinking in this year, then not cellaring it anymore. Not sure if its the style or the beer itself. I have an extra bottle of the Thirsty Dog Wulver, so I may try that next year and change my mind on aging that style.

    I'm working on a DL/The Abyss/Darkness for bigger stouts and KBS/BCBS for 12o.z. bottles.

Thereabouts. If the 1998 shows well, I might try pushing it back farther. I really enjoy keeping a vertical of Bigfoot because it both ages great and is easy to find. Just about anyone can build a rad vert of BF with enough patience!

The fact of the matter if you really want to educate yourself and better understand your own tastes and palate, try a vertical of everything! In that way you can see what happens and make better decisions. I'm against aging most beer. However, I didn't form that opinion until I tried lots of old beer (and most did not improve with aging in my opinion - most, not all). JMO

If you have any access to St Louis brews, then Schlafly Pumpkin Ale is nice. Just did the last 4 years with a buddy. Seemed to be best around the 2-3 year age.
