My pals and I are planning to tent camp out the weekend of Darklord. Does anyone have local campsite recommendations? The closest I'm finding is Jellystone on Portage, IN but that's like 30 mins away (and also a little too kid-friendly for my weekend plans). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there are few options in Lake County, in Indiana, or across the border in Illinois, for camping.

You can try the Indiana Dunes / National Lakeshore, but that's a haul to the east, not far from the Portage Jellystone (and of the two, you'd be better off at the Dunes).

I really can't think of any other options for you in NW Indiana.

Don't quote me...but I think there's no alcohol allowed at the campground.

I would second the suggestion to at least look into the Dunes area. It gets a little confusing because there is both the National Lakeshore and the Indiana State Park adjacent to each other.

The National Lakeshore camping information is included in the links others have provided. Yes, alcohol is officially prohibited.

Here's the information for the state park: http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2980.htm.
    The rules are here: http://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/rules/general/inrules.jsp
There's no mention of alcohol being prohibited, so this might be your better bet.

In any case, there's not really much else nearby the brewery. There are a few forest preserves on the IL side that are being developed for camping, but nothing that's currently operational, as far as I can tell.

Not exactly sure where the camping sites are located but you should be relatively close to 18th Street Brewery.
