Planning a daytime "college graduation/birthday/got a sweet internship" party for mid may. Plan to start around 2pm for some drinking, grilling, and lawn games. Looking for opinions on what the best locally available (western MA/upstate NY) keg to get would be seeing as most people attending will not be BAs. I was thinking prima pils but I'm very open to suggestions.

Berkshire Steel Rail Pale Ale is a crowd favorite and you'll still have summer seasonals around which do well with most people.

    sorry, had to...

I think the suggestion of BBC Steel Rail is good. It's clean, simple, yet flavorful and goes down easy. If their Czech pils was out now, I'd say get that, but that doesn't come out until July.

I'd suggest buying your favorite non-imperial beer. Non-BAs tend to be agnostic towards beer styles--I wouldn't worry too much about pleasing them. As long as you don't get a syrupy 10%abv monster, they'll drink it.

I'd consider High and Mighty's Fumata beers. Also Berkshire, Ithaca, and Ommegang (BPA or Hennepin--too bad they don't have a 4%abv super-dry saison, which would be perfect...maybe consider Notch Session Saison too).

Bud light is the way to go unfortunately.

Does BBC sell kegs? I'm having a similar event after graduation and steel rail seems like a kick ass idea

Yeah they do, I've gotten a quarter-keg of Lost Sailor before and have seen Steel Rails around.

If I was going with BBC I would try to get their Berkshire ale, River ale, or Lost Sailor. Still undecided...

I'd avoid the Lost Sailor as many people who really only drink BMC may be put off by an IPA at first.

Bud Light is never the right way to go.

A tasty amber lager with low/moderate abv, like Yuengling.

Cannot go wrong with Berkshire, but Mayflower Golden was the beer I thought of when I read this.

I'd go with Steel Rail from the Berkshire camp, anyplace local that sells kegs should be able to get you one at a decent price. River (which I've never seen on draft) and their Pale Ale are both a bit too strong for a big outdoor blowout, I think - Steel Rail goes down easy and is just about right.

Switchback Pale Ale, Southern Tier Hop Sun, Brooklyn Lager, Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat, Sixpoint Crisp should all be available in your area and wouldn't offend the non BA crowd too much.
