Will be traveling through the state and have flexibility. In order, what are the top 5 GA breweries?
Creature Comforts is worth a trip over.
I am not going to rank them. they are all good.
Wrecking Bar Brewpub
Mazurt is great, but you can't find their beer anywhere.
In order for me, but there are more good ones.
Monday Night Brewing
The Wrecking Bar, hands down. It's a brewpub, so you can eat too. After that, Orpheus, Creature Comforts, Three Taverns, and Wild Heaven.
Burnt Hickory by far... They went from nano to micro recently. I'm all about their recent bottle releases.
I was really impressed with Creature Comforts at Hunahpu day.
Mine would be...
Creature Comforts (Please collab with 7venth Sun many, many more times)!! Had the new one, delicious
Wrecking Bar, cask friday, peanut butter jemmy stout!
Burnt Hickory, my fav. brewery "tour"
Orpheus, love sours
Wild Heaven, just really like their beers
Not technically a brewery yet, but Mazurt killed it at Huna, congrats guys!
Orpheus, creature comforts, wrecking bar, burnt hickory, three taverns
Three Taverns, Orpheus, Wild Heaven, 5 Seasons, Terrapin
Thanks for the 5 Seasons call out! If we could release our barrel aged beers to the public, they'd take off. Distribution wise of course,
Only had Eschaton from Wild Heaven and it's one of the worst craft beers ever IMO.
You must have had it when they first opened up and were getting it down on the new equipment. Tasting great now, especially on draft. I recommend a revisit to that beer sometime.
You bet. I appreciate just about everything Crawford and you folks do. Love the current Dunkel and Doppelbock.
Chef Larkworthy frequently tends bar when I drop by the Westside location on Friday afternoons, and we were discussing this very topic the other week. I love to drink barrel-aged Black Beauty and others more often, but having to consume them completely on premises is a non-starter for me.
Even if SB63 doesn't pass in the form we want, it's a start I guess. I just don't get the cluelessness of applying "merlot to go" logic.
I agree. Their beers got better once they moved into the Avondale location and worked out the kinks.
Try it again. They've dialed it in a lot since brewing it here and the draft versions are superior to anything they've put out before. Massive oak and red wine dominate the beer, without that artificial candi sugar taste it used to have.
No thanks. Tried a single bottle and it was enough. And it's the freshest batch too, since it was in bottles.
Ditto this list... although Wild Heaven would be on the bubble too.
I was at burnt hickory this weekend. First visit. The hype did not disappoint. They had a sour ale that was incredible. They are on the cusp of huge things. Me thinks. I also had my like one millionth tropicalia from Ccbc. Very good.
Here are mine in no particular order:
Monday Night Brewing
I'd like to add that I haven't tried anything from Creature Comforts or Burnt Hickory yet being that I'm so far South in Georgia but hopefully that happens SOON!!!!
Sounds like Creature Comforts will be a big win. Might have to hit up Wrecking Bar as well. Does Burnt Hickory have bottles in stores?
Creature Comforts, Burnt Hickory, Cherry Street, Orpheus, Jekyll are my favorites at the moment.
Ive been impressed by Three Taverns and Monday Night.
Burnt Hickory is pretty regularly on tap at the growler shops in Macon and sometimes at the Rookery. I think both of the growler shops have bottles too. I mean, at least it's closer than Kennesaw?
Thanks for the heads up! I only live about an hour South of Macon so it's definitely closer than Kennesaw for me.
just had BHB's "Killboy". AMAZING stuff. i swear they are killing it!
So I went to CC today. The Berliner was outstanding, the IPA pretty good, and the other mainstays were average. I was really disappointed they didn't have anything pouring other than the regular lineup. For a place that is open twice a week for 3 hours, I think that's poor form when they give you 6 pours and only 4 beers to choose from.
They have a great space and enjoyed the people as well.
That would mostly be due to GA's shitty beer laws. We're trying to get them fixed... it's not easy. They're technically giving you free beer; you just paid for the glass.
I picked up a bomber of Cannon Dragger and Old Wooden Head at Hop City over the weekend. I plan on cracking them open Friday night. I have a feeling my Georgia brewery list may change very soon, especially after finally trying Tropicalia over the weekend.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Three Taverns' A Night on Ponce, which should be getting a bottle release in the next few weeks. The change in yeast resulted in an even better IPA from them.
I did the same thing coming back from the 420 Fest. These two beers were fantastic and I now have a new favorite brewery in Georgia.
After today Creature Comforts is the best thing going. period. The others are just stops...... seriously. Burnt Hickory is hit or miss. Three taverns is the next best. a night on W.E. if you see their le Peche mode it is awesome....
Others... terrapin messed up and discontinued their best brew hopzilla.... the others and average at best. Please please take my recommendation seriously.
Skip the big boys sweetwater and terrapin.
