I may have even posted here before, but after trying many, many more IPAs, here is my current opinion:

    DIPA:
    Pliny.
I love Heady Topper, but PtE is just a perfect beer for my palate. HT and Double Dose get honorable mention, without question.

    IPA:
    Jai Alai
I actually rated Nelson .01 higher blind, but I've had a six pack of Jai Alai, and exactly one bottle of Nelson. Based on all the single IPAs I've had, Nelson, Jai Alai, and Flower Power are among the absolute best, but if I had to pick one, right now, I'd go with Jai Alai.

Palates differ; your results may vary. Cheers all!

so many breweries come out with what seems to be the same recipe for an IPA. so to find a truly great one, wheter it be an apa or a dipa, i think is difficult because it has to separate itself. W ith that being said

heady - pseudosue - pliny the elder - and i think 90 min is great because its so easy come across.

I don't know if these are the *best* I have had per se, but they're the ones that instantly come to mind whenever someone asks for a recommendation. That being said, they're all top 10 and for the most part, easy to find. Schlafly and Founders also had a pretty damn good IPA, but it's been a couple of years since I last tried them so I can't quite recall if they too any of these.

OMG just having the Stone Ruination for the first time. It just jumped up to one of my favs! Silly question, though. What is the difference between IPA and Double IPA? I was under the impression that Ruination was a double, but the label doesn't state that.

The top 5 DIPA's I've had, in my opinion (and in this order) are-

    Hill Farmstead Abner
    Alchemist Heady Topper
    Hill Farmstead Double Galaxy
    Hill Farmstead Double Citra
Hill Farmstead Society & Solitude #5
    Russian River Pliny the Elder

    Top 5 IPA's would be-

    Hill Farmstead Edward
    Hill Farmstead Susan
    Hill Farmstead Amarillo
    Maine Lunch
    Ithaca Flower Power

Citra Showers (if it lives up to hype, sitting in my fridge for the right day)
    Knuckle Sandwich
    Tongue Tickles
    Big Whig
    Blind Pig

I have a Pliny still sitting from 11.7.13 :slight_frown: forgot to trade it away/give it away sooner.

Hands down the best IIPA is Lawson's Finest Liquids Double Sunshine IPA, followed by any IIPA from Hill Farmstead, and Heady topper.

Most sessionable IIPA is Pliny the Elder and Lagunitas Sucks (this is probably the most important characteristic of a truely world class beer)

Best IPAs I'd say fresh Zombie Dust, Ballast Point sculpin, and Anicca.

This is one beer that I MUST have. Was in Waterbury back in August. Black Back told me they get a small keg mostly every Friday. Told me to come back after 5 pm. I do, and they inform me the delivery guy didn't bring any this week. I was crushed. :slight_frown: Someday I'll try it. Someday.
