Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier has been tops for me so far this season among the handful I've tried. Still to try this season are Hacker Pschorr, Ayinger, and Paulaner's Marzen

I think this local Okto-fest from Masthead in Cleveland has impressed me.....

also, I found the new SA Festbier I got in the Fall 12 pk to also be most enjoyable and drinkable brew

I am really looking forward to both the Festbier and Marzen from Wooly Pig in Fresno OH soon too!

I have had the Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest, but I was a bit stuffy when I tried it so I don’t think I captured the full taste. With that said, I’ve got plenty of it, plus Paulaner Wiesnbier and Weltenburger Märzen to try it against.

I want that Sam Adams mug.

@Beertsipper does it have to be an Oktoberfest we've never had before?

    Might be tough for me!

The new Sierra Nevada is the only new one for me. It's good, but not among my favs:

    Ayinger
    Weihenstephaner
    Aecht Schlenkerla
    Utepils (MN brewery)
    Great Lakes
    Left Hand

No, not at all. Sometimes the recipe changes and you might like it better than last time, or worse than last time.

    Will report back...

    My hit list so far:
    Weihenstephan Festbier
    Ayinger Fest-Marzen
    Benediktiner Festbier
    Idle Hands Brocktoberfest
    Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest
    Zero Gravity Oktoberfest
    Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen
    Aeronaut Oktoberfest
    Brooklyn Oktoberfest
    Jack's Abby Copper Legend

The only one I've loved so far is the Weihenstephan. I like both fests and Marzens. That's the only one that's been great in my book.

Yes! Best in my book as well. I will say now that I have revisited paulaner fest it is a close second for me.

No Weltenburg in these parts anymore, it showed up at one place last year never to be seen again. What are your impressions of it?

Just as a clarification, the Weltenburger isn't seasonal -- year-round availability, so not really a seasonal.

Not that it makes the beer better or worse, just not as "special."

Grabbed a six pack of New Realm, The Bavarian Prince & boy, is this a good beer!
I did a side by side w/ Great Lakes Octoberfest, (big fan) & the Prince, came out on top.

With Hazy Like a Fox, Oaxaca Choca and now Bavarian Prince, New Realm is making great beer. I'm looking forward to visiting my son in the Norfolk/VB area & visiting the New Realm brewery/restaurant.

Cheers to my son & the fleet of the USS Harry S Truman!!

I will let you know this weekend!

Huh, interesting, at least it fits the seasonal style-wise? Now you make me want to check the dates on those cans...if they date it, that is.

Or... Are they just following the German strength designation of Marzen?

FWIW -- I used to get this in bottles all the time a few years ago. It had a really great German lager character back then. The cans I had a few weeks ago weren't as rich in melanoidin.

Wasn't undrinkable, just wasn't the same. It has a yeast character I find similar to Paulaner or H-P. More Festbier than Amber Marzen, FWTW.

So far I’d say hofbrau Oktoberfestbier. I’m still hunting down ayinger so this might change.

Schlenkerla’s “Märzen” just represents the strength designation, not a style. It’s just a Rauchbier as far as I know. For example, the next strongest Rauch in their lineup is their Urbock.

    Wow, you’re a tough customer!

Although I typically only absolutely LOVE a handful each year. Weihenstephan is perennially one of those.

How was Zero Gravity’s and Paulaner’s this year? Those are usually favorites as well.

Ha, thanks! I actually already have one of those three, the one with the orange label that is in the middle of the three dimpled mugs.

To be fair he said IN a month, not next month.

I mean, I really wanted to like more of them. I liked the ZG. Lots of toasty, nutty, caramel notes. Hop bitterness to balance the sweetness. Definitely one of the better ones I've had. The Paulaner (I had the Oktoberfest-Marzen, not the Weisn) felt like it did not travel well. It tasted a little stale and didn't have the malt depth of say the Ayinger.

And BTW, Urbock is stronger than Marzen.

First time - Oktoberfest by R. Shea Brewing in Akron was very good and Munsterfest by 3 Floyd’s left me unimpressed. Old favorite - Paulaner is super this year as I love honey flavored beers.

It’s nice that singles are so readily available now. This style is one that I am hesitant to purchase in six packs without knowing about the beer. I will be buying more Paulaner.

I've only had four new offerings so far. In order I'd rank them:

    1. Lazy Monk
    2. Lift Bridge
    3. Firestone Walker
    4. Sierra Nevada

My favorite Oktoberfest period continues to be Ayinger.
