This might seem specific, but I’m curious what you all think are the best breweries out on the coast.

We take a trip down to deGarde and Oregon wine country a few times a year and almost always take visitors somewhere out on the coast. When we’re not in a pandemic at least.

So, what are the best breweries to visit out on the coast?

Let’s call the coast maybe south of Aberdeen WA and North of Newport OR? And as west as possible!

    I’ll start:
    deGarde in Tillamook, obviously.
    Fort George in Astoria

Where else should I be stopping?

It's kind of a bummer that the western coast isn't a little more built up in WA, but then again La Push and Neah Bay are some of the most beautiful places I've had the pleasure of visiting.

Yachats Brewing and Pelican are definitely recommended.

A couple things: A, the reason it remains beautiful is that it isn't built up.

B, there's likely not the population base out there to support a 7-10bbl brewery. There's a couple in Aberdeen now, and up in PA, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Buoy and Reach Break in Astoria, Yachats is further south than your Newport limit, but is worth the exception. Depending on which part of wine country, Wolves and People may be an attractive non-coastal option.

The beers at Pelican aren't the greatest, IMO. They're not bad, just not great. But the Pacific City location is an absolute must-stop if you haven't been there. And it's only about 30 minutes south of Tillamook if you're at dG.

As mentioned, Yachats is pretty solid, and that part of the coast is amazing. Make sure to check out Thor's Well if you're in Yachats.

Newport Brewing is pretty new, but the beers I've had from them have been solid. I haven't been to their location yet, but it's an easy stop if you're heading from Tillamook to Yachats, or vice versa.

    I'll second Buoy and Pelican.

I've yet to be blown away by anything from Reach Break, but I still always make sure to stop in when in Astoria. Don't get me wrong, not bad at all, but just nothing has wowed me yet like at Buoy and Fort George.

I'm usually a lone voice in this, but I really liked Astoria Brewing/Wet Dog Cafe in Astoria.

I’ve been to Astoria a couple of times, but they weren’t necessarily “beer” trips (aka, family with at the time very young boys in tow). But, both times we ended up at the Wet Dog Cafe. Their beers didn’t blow me away, but they sure didn’t disappoint.

The missus and I always stop in for a friendly pint when we're in Astoria. Solid beers.

Yeah, if you're on the coast, might as well hit it. Plus, there's a little wine shop down the street that's worth a beerlovers time.....

I agree with all those above..what about Public Coast..every beer i have had from them has been solid at least?
Also a friend of mine has taken over as brewer at Rusty Truck..i expect improvements
And Depoe Bay Brewery isn't bad if you like a view and nice pub grub with your poison.

not sure if I was clear in my first post on the wet dog...but I haven’t been to Ft. George or Bouy. I really should one day. But as I said before the wet dog didn’t disappoint (and yes @beertunes, I like their chowder.)

For a while clam guns ruled this forum.

    Now chowder?

    To quote Ivar, "Keep Clam!

How much more Pacific NW can you get?

(Someone with more skill than me ought to be able to get a haiku or two out of this.)

You're better off going to Buoy for food, beer, and view. But the wait for a table can be very long there during the summer. That's what made me walk over to Astoria Brewing the last time I ate there. FYI the restaurant is no longer called Wet Dog Café. The food was not as good as I remembered. Especially the clam chowder. It was mostly potatoes. It was more like potato soup.

the standard year round pub beers arent amazing, but I think pelican does some very good one-off beers, some very good higher ABV IPAs, and their barrel aged beers (MOAS and Father of Tsunamis) are some of the best you will find anywhere
