Recieved in a trade last year, a Williamsberg Alewerks Bourbon Barrel Porter. Didn't think to much of it but crack it last year on New Years Eve and it was out of this world! I remember sharing it with five or 6 other guys And we all thought it was incredible. So what was your previously unknown extra that impressed the hell out of you?

Bourbon Barrel Plead the 5th. Never heard of it before, drank it, raised the bar for barrel-aged stouts forever.

Uinta Labrynth. Amazing beer. If I'd have known how good it was I'd have bought the bottles I saw on shelves when I was in Atlanta earlier this year.

A TON of locals that I have received. I would say generally, I have never heard of most if not all of them and there are a lot of the breweries let alone beers that I previously have not heard of. Probably one of the first was Tyrannea and it began a lovefest that I have had with just about all of their beers.

Not really an extra, but I had two trades with Cali BA's where they knew what I was sending and all I asked for was whatever they thought was good. As luck would have it they both sent a bottle of Cismontane Brewing Co. Black's Nocturne, an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels. Long story short, color me giddy! Fantastic brew that everyone should start seeking out in trades before it becomes too popular.

Also received some Alpine Nelson this way. Boy oh boy did that knock my socks off.

One that stood out was Port Brewing Mondo pale in a trade for Pliny. And I liked Mondo better.

Alpine Pure Hoppiness. Had tried a Duet once when in SoCal, didnt like it. If not for that great extra, never would have sought out some of the other great Alpine beers.

I know now, which obviously made it even more generous. Expecting some of this year's release to come through by the end of next month, so can't wait to do a 2012 BCBS/BBPT5 face-off! Celebrityyyyy deathmatch!

Here's the review I shot in summer (so please excuse the profuse and obscene sweating):

The whole culture of generosity is probably my favorite thing about BA. My favorite "unknowns".

    1) Lawson's Jade IPA
    2) BBPt5
    3) Older Viscosity
    4) Slap yer Mammy DIPA

Plus unexpected "knowns" like KBS, BCBS, ZD.

    Good stuff.

It was definetely one of those 'how have I not heard of this shit' beers. I put my trading to a virtual halt shortly after that due to budget confines, and I keep hoping it's still on a few shelves somewhere in a couple months so I can get more.
