I don't mind a Good scotch brew..liked Sam Adams Scotch offering, their Wee Heavy wasn't too shabby either. There are a few others I've had not so bad..
    - Oskar Blues: Old Chub (I see a popular here, my buddy told me to try it, 'cuz it was Really good), however, (I think): it is absolutely HORRIBLE !

Never really cared for this style till I had the BA Big Sound. That beer was amazing even in its "fresh" state. With some age I bet it will be heavenly.

Backwoods all the way!! Got it in a trade and now I want more. BA Big Sound is at the top of my scotch ale list now, though I still need to try the regular big sound too. If only we could get it in VA. :slight_frown:

My all time favorite is Leinenkugal's Big Eddy Series Wee Heavy Scotch Ale. Absolutely delicious.

Stay away from Great Divide's Claymore Scotch Ale. If you have tried and like this one then to each his own, but it was just flat, sticky, and boring when I had it, IMO.

Second the CCB BA Big Sound. Couldn't cellar that beer to save my life. So tasty, and they made soooo much last year.

Regular Big Sound is great fresh; I've found that the more you age it the more it turns into a sugar bomb.

It's Old Chub. When I first had it I thought Scottish ales were my new favorite style. I went out and tried all I could, then realized that no others quite lived up to the Chub benchmark.

Scottish ales eh? We have loads of good ones, most things from cromarty, tempest, fyne, black isle, orkney, williams bros etc etc. Loads of breweries here now, about 80 I think so plenty to keep you occupied.

There's a pretty decent local in Georgia called Monday Night Drafty Kilt Scotch Ale, worth doing a trade for if you're not in the area, it currently distributes to Georgia only.

I love Dirty Bastard (never had Backwoods) and Old Chub as well. Moylan's Kilt Lifter isn't half bad. I've been on a Bristol Brewing Laughing Lab kick lately though. It's sweet and mellow - not a bold Scotch Ale at all, highly drinkable, and very easy on the wallet - not to mention a multi-medal winner. Only problem is distribution is very limited so get yourself a Colorado connection.
