I agree on Logsdon for both geeks and uninitiated. Saisons are a good crossover beer. Along the same lines, I'd recommend Upright.

Unfortunately these all come mostly or exclusively in 750s, which will make transporting and dividing among OP's neighbors problematic, unless they close off the street and have a Craft Beer Block PartyTM. Which, come to think of it, is a pretty awesome idea; hence the trademark.

 

Hair of the Dog or Upright Brewing. Upright has a really good Saison as well as new selections all the time. Also they have a simple but well written description of each beer right on the bottle. They usually only come in 750 ML which sounds easier if the person is bringing back a haul.

 

Didn't you just say this about Cascade -"Don't get me wrong the one i tried was very good. World class though? nah. Definitely not worth 28 a bottle!"?

 

That all gets thrown out the window when you're telling someone else to buy it.
