Just have to stop and note the concept, worthy of adoption: having a beer on hand to help wash another down.

Might be worthy of its own thread: What beer do you use to wash down a particular other?

In the spirit of this thread, I may just wash down a Sculpin with a Ruination or wash down a Racer 5 with a Double Jack.

Does the West Coast brew a nice IPA? I might have to pick something up.

This is at least 75% of what I drink, that being fresh West Coast brewed IPAs. No ORDER!

If you live in Portland and left Workhorse off of your list, then you're just silly!

PtY will be all over Portland in February.

    For me in Norcal,

    Hop Rod Rye
Berryessa Double Tap (Berryessa is up there with Boneyard for the best new(er) IPA brewer out west)
    Berryessa House IPA
    Auburn Ale House PU240
    Hop Shortage

They've struck out with me on a couple occasions so I've left their stuff on the shelf since. If you say it's that good though I will give'em another shot. Thanks.

Yeah, it took me a while to appreciate Laurelwood too. Once I had Workhorse, I never questioned their ability again!

I think we need a polling function with choices tied in to the BA rating database. It wouldn't be infallible, but it would be a good starting point.

[yes, I just made this point in another thread, but it applies here as well]

Pure Hoppiness, Nelson or any IPA from Alpine for that matter. Also Sculpin, Racer 5, Aroma Coma, Blind Pig, Alesmith IPA, Mongo, Enjoy by, Ruination 10th to name a few. I have not been privileged enough to taste Citra yet but hopefully some day soon.

Just downed a half glass of Sculpin - wow, not sure I've had this before but it is very rich. A bit on the bitter-aftertaste side for me but I can't get over how much aroma it has ... smelling all the usual good stuff: pineapple, grapefruit, liche (yes, look it up) and even some mango. Taste is not as drastic or complete but aroma is amazing.

Nothing goes down as smooth as a FW DJ, now on tap at Handles, along with FW UJ.

Im surprised to see Societe's Pupil getting so much love in here. I went to Societe on the way home after a trip to Alpine last week and found their beers to be rather unremarkable. I believe Pupil and The Butcher (their Imperial Stout) are by far their best beers but wouldn't even put them anywhere near the same level as Alpine. With that being said, here's my list.

    1. Nelson
    2. Blind Pig
    3. Pliny
    4. Exp Hoppiness
    5. Duet
    6. Stone Ruination 10th Anniv
    7. Sculpin

Honorable mentions: Lagunitas Sucks, Stone Enjoy By, FW Double Jack, Alesmith IPA

There are so many other good West Coast IPAs that I left out but these are my go-to's and favorites.

I think Pupil is about as close you can get to Nelson without actually having Nelson.

Try Beachwoods Alpha Supreme. . . .nelson hops! But more like Hoppy Birthday. Very drinkable and full of flavor. IMO.

Alpha Supreme may be BETTER than Hoppy Birthday IMHO. My god is that insane beer, stopped in Beechwood for growler fills of Hop Jitzu and had a taste of Alpha. BTW, Hop Jitzu may be one of the best Citra IPA I have had in a long time ! Unbelievable quality craft coming from Beechwood right now. I am now putting them up with Alpine, Kern and RR for my tastes.

    Cheers....
