I got a case of HP two weeks ago at Bell's General Store. And Lags Sucks has popped up all around Chicago. I've had both in the same session four times. One was draft vs draft at Bavarian Lodge. On the one hand I agree with one opionon weaving through this thread, "these brews don't quite seem like the same style". So is it a real grapefruit to grapefruit comparison? While both are awesome, and I've been a Hopslam fan for a few years....my nod goes to Sucks. Two reasons; (1) more vibrant fruit flavs, (2) price...for sixers I paid $11 f/ Sucks and $16 f/ HP.

I drank both the other day. Hopslam by far. Better flavor and mouthfeel. Also the aftertaste of Sucks is lacking whereas Hopslam coats your throat in hoppy goodness.

Hopslam arrived in DC tonight, so I went all in and did a blind taste test of both tonight.
Sucks was my winner, but as stated constantly, taste is subjective.
Sucks has a better mouthfeel and seemingly higher gravity, which I liked more. Also seems to be more balanced.
I've never had previous year's releases of Hopslam, so I have no point of comparison.

I could get a case of sucks for the same price of 12 Hopslam, but the slam always seems to go down easier. My vote goes to Hopslam.

In NJ I can't get Hopslam. Would love to try it but can't... :-( . Got my limit of six Sucks tonight, but loved the hell out of it on tap!

Last year I was waiting impatiently for Hopslam, but when I finally got it, it tasted a little off. Well it turned out I came down with a really bad flu and was throwing up for the next 24 hours. As that was the last thing I had before getting sick, I don't think I'll ever see Hopslam in the same light again. Had them both this year and consider them very comparable, but give the edge to Sucks. But like I say, I am biased.

For some reason Sucks doesn't come across me as a DIPA...

Haven't had Hopslam this year but Enjoy By IPA > Sucks

Surly Abrasive is just better than both of these in every way possible, IMHO!

I've bought a case each year of "Hopslam" in the past, but this year, considering "Lagunitas Sucks" is about $8-9 per 6er and "Hopslam" is $22+, I made a command decision to direct my beer buying habits to Cali this year.

Both are great, the best tasting for fragrant hops, but Sucks is not really a DIPA. Slight preference for Hopslam because it is higher in ABV and it is a more complicated beverage holding more flavor.

It's definitely pretty damn close. I voted one way, but now I'm not so sure.

I remember back to last year's release. Saw cases of Brown Shugga Substitute on the floors of my local bottleshops and distributors sometime in December of '11. Started with a 'what the hell is this?' and me picking up a six-pack to add to my armful of Belgian Christmas beers. When I got home and tasted one, I was blown away. Had no problem trekking up to the distributor to take a case back with me.

Sucks (bottles) hasn't hit my area yet, but I can only hope it'll prove to be readily-available, despite the demand being so high. Hopslam, on the other hand, sells out right away; even if it does come in in great volumes. If you have trouble landing a sixer of Hopslam, I always swear by Stoudts DIPA. Think Hopslam, specifically with orange blossom honey. I'm not sure where you're at and if you get their distribution, but it's a similarly awesome beer. Quite the underrated IIPA.

I was in Chicago last week where I usually get my Hopslam. This year I thought, "fuck it". I'm tired of hunting down Hopslam every year. It is a great beer, but there are so many great IPA/IIPAs that are more available. I decided to let the other chumps to hunt down sixpacks for $18.

Hopslam all the way. I just can't get into Lagunitas at all. Tried Sucks on trap the other night and didn't do anything for me. I also traded off my last six of Brown Shugga for a four pack of Ten Fidy last week. I don't get all the hype for their shit at all.

I'll vote on this as soon as Hopslam comes to NC. Holy crap they are taking their sweet time.
That being said Sucks is an amazing beer

Tried them both again last night and I still prefer Hopslam. I love the tropical hop profile of Sucks but it lacks in the other areas where Hopslam excels.

    But it's only 8%!!!!

I haven't actually tried Sucks yet, so Hopslam is my default answer. Tastes as good as always.

Truthfully, since Heady isn't part of the discussion, I opt for:

    C) none of the above

I saw a viedo on Draft Magazine that gave the 1-03-13 bottling of Hopslam a very bad review. I would love to tast it to make a judment call myself though. Has anyone else seen the viedo?

Apparently the voters thought the question was "which beer is more widely distributed?"

Sucks is my vote for the poll but if you're really going out of your way, go with Heady Topper.

I don't give a shit what the BA bros say Lagunitas Sucks is NOT a DIPA. Its 7.7 % and only 63 IBUs. How is this DIPA territory, when Union Jack is still considered a single IPA?

This. A million times this. Had a 3 day old version on tap for the same price per pint as what I would pay for a 10-12oz pour of Hopslam IF it was served outside of 9-5 business hours here...and it absolutely destroyed Hopslam in my book. If I saw a 3 day old bomber of Stone Enjoy By, I'd grab it without hesitation at $7.50 (roughly the same price/oz as Hopslam here), and would consider and most likely buy it up into the $15 range. Just one bottle, mind you...but damnit, that beer was amazing.

$9.99 for a tasty 6 pack versus $16.99 for a tasty 6 pack in my area. I'll take Sucks. Hopslam is good but not even the best IPA from Bells, which is Two Hearted IMO.
