I got a case of HP two weeks ago at Bell's General Store. And Lags Sucks has popped up all around Chicago. I've had both in the same session four times. One was draft vs draft at Bavarian Lodge. On the one hand I agree with one opionon weaving through this thread, "these brews don't quite seem like the same style". So is it a real grapefruit to grapefruit comparison? While both are awesome, and I've been a Hopslam fan for a few years....my nod goes to Sucks. Two reasons; (1) more vibrant fruit flavs, (2) price...for sixers I paid $11 f/ Sucks and $16 f/ HP.

I drank both the other day. Hopslam by far. Better flavor and mouthfeel. Also the aftertaste of Sucks is lacking whereas Hopslam coats your throat in hoppy goodness.

Hopslam arrived in DC tonight, so I went all in and did a blind taste test of both tonight.
Sucks was my winner, but as stated constantly, taste is subjective.
Sucks has a better mouthfeel and seemingly higher gravity, which I liked more. Also seems to be more balanced.
I've never had previous year's releases of Hopslam, so I have no point of comparison.

Both are great, but I vote for Hopslam.

I could get a case of sucks for the same price of 12 Hopslam, but the slam always seems to go down easier. My vote goes to Hopslam.

Both great beers, but Abrasive tops them both!

In NJ I can't get Hopslam. Would love to try it but can't... :-( . Got my limit of six Sucks tonight, but loved the hell out of it on tap!

Last year I was waiting impatiently for Hopslam, but when I finally got it, it tasted a little off. Well it turned out I came down with a really bad flu and was throwing up for the next 24 hours. As that was the last thing I had before getting sick, I don't think I'll ever see Hopslam in the same light again. Had them both this year and consider them very comparable, but give the edge to Sucks. But like I say, I am biased.

For some reason Sucks doesn't come across me as a DIPA...

Haven't had Hopslam this year but Enjoy By IPA > Sucks

Surly Abrasive is just better than both of these in every way possible, IMHO!

I've bought a case each year of "Hopslam" in the past, but this year, considering "Lagunitas Sucks" is about $8-9 per 6er and "Hopslam" is $22+, I made a command decision to direct my beer buying habits to Cali this year.

Both are great, the best tasting for fragrant hops, but Sucks is not really a DIPA. Slight preference for Hopslam because it is higher in ABV and it is a more complicated beverage holding more flavor.

It's definitely pretty damn close. I voted one way, but now I'm not so sure.

I remember back to last year's release. Saw cases of Brown Shugga Substitute on the floors of my local bottleshops and distributors sometime in December of '11. Started with a 'what the hell is this?' and me picking up a six-pack to add to my armful of Belgian Christmas beers. When I got home and tasted one, I was blown away. Had no problem trekking up to the distributor to take a case back with me.

Sucks (bottles) hasn't hit my area yet, but I can only hope it'll prove to be readily-available, despite the demand being so high. Hopslam, on the other hand, sells out right away; even if it does come in in great volumes. If you have trouble landing a sixer of Hopslam, I always swear by Stoudts DIPA. Think Hopslam, specifically with orange blossom honey. I'm not sure where you're at and if you get their distribution, but it's a similarly awesome beer. Quite the underrated IIPA.
