Better Distribution or Better Local Breweries?

Well, you got me on that! Yep California born and raised. In June I'll drive 1500 miles RT to a music festival. I do love my car and motorcycle.

 

How about both? Chicago...

 

I'm in the heart of west-michigan. So I have the best of both worlds ! Plus I work at a liquor store! So I'm knuckle deep in the beer distro' for the Kalamazoo-Grand Rapids area. There is a place called "The Old Mill Brewpub" that is two blocks away from my house, and they brew some fantastic beer. They even make a nice N/A root beer. I'm waiting for the day that they start distributing. We're getting our cases of Sunday Morning Stout today ! Can't wait to try out and post a review!!!

 

And the water crisis in California. I can see a whole lot of California breweries not being able to produce as much.

I agree. I've always loved my locals but really wanted to see what other cities/regions "top" beers are all about. After alot of trading I have found that basically any of any regions "best" beer is not really at all better then much lesser know stuff I can get in my backyard. I continue to trade to try and discover other beers but I've really come to the conclusion that any beer that I've gotten in a trade is no better than what I can get locally. Now there are beers that I just love life second fiddle that I will trade for over and over. But most stuff for my region anyway us just as good or better locally.

 

Better locals.

 

This just boils down to what people think is "local" OOOOH another poll!

Interesting question!

If I could choose one of the two, I'd go with better locals. Why?

-I like the idea of supporting my neighbors (I realize distributors have employees too - but I like to support the ones creating the product, and distributors aren't going anywhere anyway).

-I like the sense of pride in one's community that comes from having well-regarded things (beer or otherwise) being produced locally.

-I like knowing that what I'm drinking is special, when it comes to limited release beers that are unique to a very small area. It's not necessary, but I enjoy it when possible.

-I like the odds that maybe I could end up working for a brewery I like, even just pouring once a week or something.

-I feel that a focus on local beer at home would mean I'd be more likely to purchase different brews when I travel, instead of falling back on the same brands both home and away.
