Honest question: how many of the people bitching about the $9-10 4pks would be snatching it up if it was $4.99/22oz? Yes, I get it, the price went up, but if anything it was underpriced for the last few years. Seriously, how many other world class, 9.5% abv beers can you get for less than $5/22oz or $10/4pk?

$9.99 here in Olympia WA. I was bummed to see the four pack. Although the per bottle price is .10 cheaper then it was with the six pack, I liked getting the six bottles over the four.

Thanks for the explanation above. It makes sense in a business manner, I suppose; it's that bigfoot and narwhal seemed to exist at different price points, and tying the two together (along with hoptimum) just seems like it'll add to confusion. That, or we should assume Bigfoot will continue to climb in price, since I can't see Narwhal or Hoptimum dropping in price.

It's the tired "it'll be cheaper" 4-pack argument that causes the bitching. Since this trend started, i cannot recall a single beer whose shelf price has dropped in accordance with the loss of two bottles. In general, the retail price has stayed the same, and the amount of beer drops by 1/3. As consumer, I could care less whether the wholesale price is lower, because I am not seeing it. I understand Sierra Nevada's point in needing to increase the price of Bigfoot, but in a purely emotional sense (which is how most beer is purchased), I would have much rather seen a 6-pack rise from $11 to $13, than to see the size of the package decrease by 33%, while the price only dropped by $1, or not at all.

At the retail level, which is where the consumer makes their buying decisions, the line we are being fed about the logic of these smaller packs is disconnected from the reality of what we see at the cash register.

$8.99 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Looking forward to matching it up vs. last year's.

I did not buy the 2013 4-pack but saw it listed at 10.99 at a store here in Indy.

Was just in the beer store and saw the 2013 Bigfoot Barleywine in FOUR PACKS for $10.99. They had six packs last year for the same price. WTF.

Well, that pretty much guarantees I'm not buying any Bigfoot this year. They're just doing it because they can, and I, for one, am not putting up with it. I hope other companies don't follow suit.

Not sure where you got it last year, maybe it was old but it was 13.99 every where around here.

They decided to switch to four packs because as SierraNevadaBill has said on this site, they didn't really make any money on Bigfoot at the previous price point. As good business practice, they switched from 6- to 4-packs. I've bought one 6-pack each of the past several years, but I bought 2 4-packs this year. I say "Well done" to SN. Kind of a drag, but I get it, and don't mind.
Edit: after threads merged, I suspect my post is mostly irrelevant.

That's a pretty common trend. Have fun not buying all of the best 6-pack beers. At some point it comes to making an $11 4-pack or a $17 6-pack, and it turns out most consumers prefer the more affordable 4-pack.

They are doing it because they were losing money on Bigfoot. We have it here for $9.99 which seems pretty reasonable to me. We were just spoiled before how cheap it was. This is pretty old news at this point.

1.They had to raise the price anyways, so its either 10 dollar 4 packs or 15 dollar 6 packs. Same diff.
    2. Having in a four pack they can use the same SKU as Hoptimum and Narwal which makes it much easier for retail placement.
48 oz of a great BW for 10 bucks ain't to shabby to me. Blame the 10.99 on your retailer NOT SN. It is about 9.99 around here.

This was in respones to TTamod before the ninja merge

    $11 / 4pk.
    2012 was $9 / 6 pk.
    That's quite an increase.

My favorite beer store has been selling it for $5.99 a four pack, the owner said the distro people got the price wrong and he's not marking it up to regular price. We just got Bigfoot about 3 weeks ago in Mississippi. Reminds me to go pick-up more.

Wanted to give the group some specific data now that I had it. A local store of mine gave me the actual wholesale case price. Was $28, is now $42. That's a 50% jump regardless of whether things are in four or six packs. While distributor prices aren't usually our business, I wonder if sierranevadabill can tell us if that ratio was to be expected this year.

Bigfoot was in 6 packs prior to 2013. I got a 6 pack this year as well, but it was 2012 vintage. This was probably the case with your 6 pack as well. Check the caps and see if it says 2012 if you still got some.
