So two of my buddies and myself decided that we really wanted to do a blind taste test of some of the best IPAs we have had (and were handy). We each poured one other person's glasses alone and marked the beers under the glass. We each rated and guessed what beer we were sampling.

Here is how I ended up rating them:

    (1) Julius (Juicy, flavorful, amazing smell, hits the senses and makes it an experience to drink)
    (2) Heady (Excellent flavor, smooth, refreshing, but not as juicy as i expected)
    (3) Sip (The IPA that opened my eyes, never fails to amaze me how delicious this is, bitterness and hop-yness is subtle)
    (4) Green (Great flavor, but Grapefruit seemed to give out a bit more bitterness than I would have liked)

I don't have the best qualifications, since I have only been drinking IPAs for a few months now. I credit Sip for opening my eyes. You obviously cannot go wrong with any of these beers. But in this test, I felt that Julius was the best IPA that I have ever had. Its juicy and flavorful. Its smell is out of this world. I could probably sit there and smell the inside of the can for hours, but drinking it is way better :-)

I must note that my buddies did question the freshness of the Heady. I acquired it from a trade, which I am more than thankful for! I also know that it is suggested to drink Heady out of the can. We also used different types of glasses. Not sure how all of these might have affected the experience.

I will try and get my buddies to post their thoughts.

What do you guys/gals think about these beers?

I had the opportunity to have Heady, SoS, and Green this weekend.

    1. SoS - This surprised me, but I think it overtakes Heady.
    2. Heady - Still one of my favorite beers of all time.
    3. Green - Great, but I thought this was missing the hop bite thats present in the other two.

    It's been a good weekend.

I've never tried Green, but I'd rate the other three in the order of Julius>Heady>SOS.

Green and Julius must be out-frigging-standing, because SoS and HT are two of the best beers I've ever had

I think using all those different glasses definitely had an effect on how you tasted the beers.

You don't need qualifications, all you need is to know what you like and what you don't

Sounds like a fun time with friends to me!

I'd say Heady 1, then Green , then Julius, then Sip.

That's a powerhouse lineup!!! 3 of those 4 I've given a perfect 5 score, one was a 4.95. I'd probably vote: 1. Heady 2. Julius 3. Green 4. SoS, but all 4 are essentially a neck to neck battle. By the way if you put SWISH by Bissell Brothers in there you would have an extremely difficult blind taste test.

Should have covered the cans with some paper, mixed them up and drank all 4 out of the can! (especially since you had unmatched glasses)

Would love to do that tasting by the way, only had Heady and if those 3 are in the ballpark then can't go wrong with any of them

Never had Green, but I'd be curious to see how Second Fiddle would rank in that lineup.

Sunshine has a better body, and is better overall than Heady for me. Julius is pretty awesome, but been awhile since I've had it.

Julius is the clear number one for me, then Heady and Sip. Green is good but talking about Treehouse I like Haze better. Can't go wrong with any of the above. Cheers.

I'm sorry but Julius is way over hyped IMO . It's solid but I'll take a good ale from alchemist, fiddlehead, Lawson's, other half, MBC or Trillium over it any day. I just don't get it. I've given it a shot a few times and although I get some citrus, I find the malts too overwhelming to be in the same league as the other beers I've mentioned. To each their own though.
