Does anyone know a rough timeline of when this was bottled?

The verdict is still out, but I'm thinking that the winter batch was better.

I believe it was bottled in the last 3-4 weeks. And I agree - it was a disappointment when compared to earlier batches. And interestingly enough, I was at the brewpub yesterday and they had none on tap. Surprising.

I didn't hear what the problem is/was, but the bartender indicated on Saturday that it might be several weeks before they have blue dot on tap again.

I have been wanting to try Blue Dot for a long time, and finally got a few bottles of the Spring last week. I hate to say it, but I was somewhat dissappointed. Wish I could have tried some of the "better" batches. I know how good HotD can be.

Agreed. I didn't think the spring batch was bad per se, but the winter batch was just a straight-up grapefruit facepunch. Loved it.

Loving the spring batch. Winter was great too. It saddens me that we BA's are so fickle and pretentious sometimes.

I love it too, but not as much as the winter batch. That isn't pretentious or fickle at all, I've had my fair share of blue dot on tap and from bottle and this specific bottling is somewhat of a let down for me. Is it still better than most other stuff available off the shelf locally? Yes.

I was with ramnuts this weekend. They had none on tap but their new and improved website said they had it on tap yesterday. Very weird.

To the OP: The winter 2011 batch was the best I had ever had. It was a beautiful contrast to the piney IPAs I thrive on. This was a disappointment to me as well. May have to think real hard the next time I buy a bottle.

Love Spring, almost drainpoured winter. Got a ton of oniony notes combined with being flat.. Could have been a bad couple of bottles but the Spring is solid.

Fickle and pretentious? I've been buying every batch of Blue Dot since it was released. I would purchase a case back in the old dock sale days. Love it. I truly believe that Alan has not yet dialed in the recipe in the new brewery. The smaller batch iterations were stupendous. Ever since he moved, it has been all over the map, taste wise. A shame, since I always regarded it as my go-to DIPA. Nothing fickle about it, I just enjoyed the older versions a whole lot more than the last couple of years'.

Just be happy you have a world class brewery who's batch variations are something to bitch about. :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately, I'm with you on this Ramnuts. Since moving to the new facility, it seems as if there has been considerable batch variation. I can't say there's anything I've tried that I thought was awful, but some of the blue dot I purchased at the old facility... it was flat out some of the best DIPA I've ever had. I've had good blue dot at the new facility, and even some outstanding stuff... but nothing like some of the mind blowing blue dot I had from the old facillity.

Still, my feeling is that Alan will nail it eventually. He's too talented a brewer, and he has the experience... I'm convinced it's only a matter of time. I can wait I guess...

I somehow think you won't have to put too much brainpower into this decision
