    Who's going?

I'll be under one of the large tents right on the race track. Looking forward to another great day!

Still thinking about it. If I don't make it up to Hawthorne's for their IPA event this Saturday, I may try to go to this. Can't do both, and at this point I'm leaning towards the Hawthorne event.

Absolutely. Went for the first time last year and it was ridiculously fun. Hoping for a Peggy repeat.

I'm going for the first time this year. What can I expect? I saw Sly Fox is brewing a hefe-dopplebock, so basically a weizenbock? Looking forward to it!!

you can expect a crap load of people drinking a crap load of beer, and sometime in the afternoon there will be goats running around.

    enjoy

    Protips:

    1) Get the mug. It's two tickets ($10) with the first pour, but it's bigger than the cups and much easier to hold all day (plus it's cool).

    2) Eat sometime before the goat race. They ran out of brats last year and were left only with vastly inferior weisswurst.

    3) Bathroom lines are incredibly long, so get in line before you're about to burst.

    4) The inside bar is very, very crowded, but they do have special eisbocks on tap in there (I believe last year they had Instigator and Slacker).

I'm going to disagree on just one point. Get the mug IF you plan on drinking a lot of beer there. The year I went I got the mug, and frankly I wasn't all that happy I did. Yes, it's a cool looking glass, but I have a LOT of cool looking glassware at home, and I just thought $6 (which I think is what the price worked out to be) was just too much to have to pay for it. I ended up drinking just two glasses of Dax maibock the time I was there, and in retrospect, I wish I would have skipped the glass purchase (except, as I recall, there was a separate line for folks with a glass, which was a big attraction, given the size of the crowd). Just my two cents... I'll be curious to see what the race is like at the new (to me) venue.

My wife and I are heading over. I've never been there as I missed out last year and didn't know about it the year before. Looks like a hell of a time. Beer and goat races? Yes, please.

LOL good point... it didn't occur to me that people might want to drink less than 4 beers.

I really want to go, but I have an 8am final the next morning. We'll see how adventurous I'm feeling.

I want to go, but it sounds like it's kind of a pain in the ass. Just how crowded is it? Hard-to-move, wait 15 minutes for a beer crowded? I understand the number of people they expect (2,500-3,000), but I don't know anything about where it's held and what that number means in comparison. If I just want to have a couple of drinks and see something new (goat races), does the crowd make it more hassle than it's worth?

it's crowded, but not unbearable. unless you need to go to the bathroom or you want to buy food. you can bring your own food and picnic out there, so do that. and for beer, it seemed to be faster to go inside to the restaurant and order at the bar (it looks crazy when you enter, but there are more people to help you as opposed to waiting in a long line outside - also, there are a lot more options to choose from inside). because they use a ticketing system (you buy the tickets beforehand and exchange them for beer and goods) it's a lot faster since you don't have to wait for people to get change, or pay with credit cards, etc.

Last year was a big year for them as they started the ticket system which helped move beer lines much better. I think this year, strides really need to be made for the bathroom situation, so we'll see.
The crowds are rough, but in my opinion, it's waaaaay worth it. I'll be there bright and early staking out my spot.

I confess I was a bit critical of how this event was organized in the past (the crowd was so large the year I went, that you really couldn't see the race, unless you lined up very, very early; parking was also an issue I thought), but I haven't been in a couple years, and I've heard that it's better run now. At this point I'm leaning towards going, so I guess I'll see for myself on Sunday.

Taking the family again this year, we only missed a few years since the beginning. Always a fun day.

Yes, bring your own food and find a nice place to sit. We actually bring lawn chairs and a tent and set it up on the track, that way there is always a home base to go to. There are a lot of people there, but with the entire parking lot open you never feel crowded. The only issue is the bathrooms/porta potties....big pain in the ass and big lines.

There is a Subway right there in the shopping center, so you can always get a sandwich there if you want. The race itself can be a struggle to get a good spot to watch, but just stake out a place in advance of the race and you should be good.

So does anyone know why they are allowing disposable water bottles in this year? They are making a big deal of it in all their emails and mailers. Curious.

It's going to be a perfect day for it, not too hot, not cold. I expect a lot of people to come so it will be a blast. I sure hope they have the Keller Pils again, great beer.

why they are or why they aren't? just want some sort of clarification on that since i don't get their emails, apparently. and there's no mention on their website of this. and i would have been bringing water bottles if i hadn't known we couldn't.
