    Virtual Booth/Discussion Thread for:

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, Del.)

Olde School Barleywine; 12oz bottle; 15%; Fermented with dates and figs, this smooth Barleywine has a unique flavor and is a great candidate for aging. Exclusive for the fest, these bottles were pulled from Sam’s Stash and go as far back as 2007. Which vintage will you receive?

    Bonus beer from Dogfish Head:

Hazy-O! IPA; 12oz can; 7.1%; Starts with literally truckloads of oats and wheat for a full body, then it’s liberally dry-hopped to deliver juicy tropical notes of citrus, mango and pineapple. This Hazy IPA uses four types of oats including oat milk to amplify the haze and mouthfeel for a beer that is incredibly juicy and hop-forward while being smooth and refreshing. Be one of the first in the nation to try this beer!

Have you actually buried any bottles and went back to dig it up a year later? If so what are the results?

Why is it so easy to find IPA's, but almost impossible to find good Barleywine year round?

You used 8 different hops for the Hazy O? How do you make sure the hops aren't clashing?

I'm planning to save my 2017 Barleywine for a much later date. How many years should I wait? My plan is to substitute it with a 120-minute IPA I purchased towards the end of last year. Should I age the other 120-minute IPAs I have and if so, for how long? I will definitely start the fest with Hazy-O, but if I enjoy it, will it be available on the West Coast?

Planning any more kinds of ancient ales?

Will you revisit any of the previous ancient ales that have been retired and bring them back for another round?

I am highly looking forward to both of these brews. I am curious as to how working with the oat milk to increase haze differed from using lactase or regular milk, if at all?

At what point is the oat milk added? During the mash or added at the boil? Looking forward to trying Hazy O!

    Hello,

Looking at the sack of hops it appeared they are pelletized?
Is that common in the industry?

I understand that it is, and I don't want to talk about things I don't know, but I believe I heard something about consistency and better results vs. fresh hops. I'd love to hear Sam's insight on this too.

Oh yes! A few I missed because the distribution wasn't that wide spread (or just none made it to my neck of the woods).

The original Midas Touch! It was our first Dogfish ale and it was in the large corked bottle and 11% I believe.

Do you think you'll ever make something more extreme than the Chicha beer? Saliva was already pretty extreme, but now it's completely insane after a pandemic.

I got a ton of Banana from the Hazy-o, is that from the yeast or are my tastebuds way off?

I am not a fan of IPAs and only fan of few Hazy IPAs, but Hazy-O is pretty darn good! I like it! Thank you, Dogfish!

My spouse and I both identified this as a Dogfish Head IPA right away from the aroma. What's the explanation? House yeast? Favorite hop combination? Something else?

I have made Sam's Blood Orange Hefe many times. All the recipes I have found are not clear on how to handle the pith, and peel. After zesting do you put in 1/2 the peel. Cab you describe what you do? too
