In a recent thread, someone mentioned having 5,000 beer bottles saved. My question to you is: if you were to save a few beer bottles to display, what would they be?

I have a little cubby hole near my beer fridge which is a natural spot for keeping 20 or so bottles on display. Utopias is a keeper. Delerium Tremons is also a must. I have one that was made special for my aunt's 80th birthday party with a picture of her imitating Mother Theresa. I'm also partial to Unibroue bottles and Old Rasputin. As for the others, they are mainly rarities that could lose their place to more interesting additions. Any thoughts?

I like to hold on to all the 3 Floyds bottles I can get. Their labels are artistic and awesome.

Are you talking about cellar or graveyard? It sounds like graveyard, in which case you should just recycle all of them. Keeping empties is hoarder-style.

Personally, I'm talking about a top twenty trophies that are both worth saving as art as well as for fond memories. Remember that others have already admitted to saving up to 5,000 bottles. You're not going to make me feel weird about saving 20.

I wasn't trying to "make you feel weird." I was giving my opinion on the topic.

I don't see the beers I've consumed as "trophies," I see them as empty glass bottles and aluminum cans taking up space.

Fighting off my hoarder tendencies, I have only allowed myself to save three.

As a pair of bookends, I have a Stone Ruination and a Flossmoor Station IPA. Both are classic painted bottles in the same general color palette.

I also have one of the former Dark Horse, Crooked Tree IPA bottles--so simple, so Zen, I would almost order the beer in restaurants just to have the label to look at. (Still the bottle in the photo on the beer's review page at Beer Advocate.)

Okay, and maybe not so disciplined... Somewhere lurking around here is an Ommegang Hennepin label. Nothing againist the Ommegang label redesign, but a lot of good memories associated with that now-deposed design. This one even has the little "Product of Belgium" rectangle.

Then why did you reply to this thread? I appreciate beer and some bottles obviously have enough work put into them that they are worthy of saving imo. Especially the one I mentioned with the picture of my 80 year old departed aunt. I'm talking about a hole in the wall that was sitting conspicuously empty that I threw a few beer bottles in. You implied that it was morbid (using the word graveyard) and told me I should throw them out. I disagree.

I replied because it's relevant. I did not coin the term "graveyard." That is the word people use to refer to empties.

The only bottles I've saved have been a Gratitude bottle and the zombie Darkness bottle. I love the look of both if them.

I love the BA Dark Lord bottles and have 5 of them in my collection. Also like the simplicity of the Bourbon County variations as well as the old labels of the bourbon county prior to 09. Also the Darkness bottles etc. etc. I have a bottle collection problem...

I'm not saying I don't believe this 5000 bottle story. I'm just saying I'd like to see pictures of how and where this collection is stored.

I had a few hundred I kept but most got recycled when I moved. Kept a 120/Bitches Brew and a Hoptimum before they went to 12 oz bottles.

I started my collection back up at my new apt. Mostly keep top 100 beers and put them on display or beers I cant get in my own distribution circle. They go on top of the kitchen cabinets where nothing is being stored so they arnt in the way of anything.

I've only saved one empty bottle, and I feel the bottle is much better than the contents.
    Rogue Voodoo Maple Bacon Ale.
