I was just told that the Bottleworks anniversary release is happening on 3/4. They did something with The Lost Abbey, but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Word has it that it's not a wild ale. Does anyone have any info?

Chris - Lost Abbey is next years anniversary ale. This year is a double or triple ipa with Alpine (CA).

Darn. I've liked the Alpine beers I've had, but I just don't like this style for an anniversary beer, especially since we have a lot of imperial IPAs available locally already.

Any "official" word on this? Aside from this thread, I haven't heard/read any more info.

I decided to just ask Bottleworks and they said it is a Lost Abbey beer, blended versions of Judgement Day.

What a let down , Judgement Day ? Really, or are you just trying to throw us beer hounds off the scent.

Judgement day has gotta be a joke.. I know Matt and Matt were working on a tequila barrel aged strong ale with the Lost Abbey in the last year or two...

Why is everyone so bummed that the beer is based off of Judgement Day? (Nor a rhetorical question - I'm actually curious?) It's a "very good" (by site classification) quad by a brewery known for turning out some pretty special variations. Granted, not ALL variations are special ... but most of the "bombs" seem to be the wild beers that fail to carbonate, are infected, etc. Is it that quads just aren't that exciting to folks?

We know very little at this point. But imagine this - Boulevard takes their quad and puts it in bourbon barrels and produces one of their best beers, BBQ. (Sure, Sixth Glass may be a better beer than Judgement Day). But look at Lost Abbey's retired beers, particularly Track 8. Seem like a familiar concept? Who's to say this isn't going to be Judgment day aged in a few different barrels and blended?

I guess I should be more skeptical since this is a message board, but I'm intrigued.

    1. It's cool to dump on Lost Abbey.
    2. It's cool to judge a beer before you've tasted it.

But it's also cool to hype beers that you can get that others can't ... which is where my confusion lies. Shouldn't this be the best beer ever so you can trade it for the clearly inferior Double Barrel Huna?

I'm sure it will be a blend of different barrel aged variants and some probably with fruit.

I was there yesterday. There was a different crew working, so I decided to ask about the anniversary beer, hoping I'd get a different answer. No one knew what the beer was, other than it being a blended Dark Strong. No information on the blend. I asked about the 18th, and they said, "Hopefully. The beer hasn't arrived yet."

Pretty standard BW Anniversary release lol. It'll probably get pushed back and info won't come in on specifics until a few days before. Pretty standard but I'm sure it'll release on a weekday. See you all at 11 am sometime in the future.

Pushed back from what? In fairness to Bottleworks, they haven't announced anything yet. We're all speculating on what someone told someone.

True, but they all know when a release is lurking, especially their anniversary beer which is always the 18th. Last years was pushed back and I think the BW 12 was as well.

Anniversary is looking later than the normal 24th this year folks. We're hoping for March 3rd if we can get label issues solved. Stay tuned.

Interesting notes - the label on the right is different than the label showing on the left. Perhaps this is what they were referring to with regard to label issues. Additionally, the description on the right (and combined with the left) states 'We've never made a beer aged in Tequila barrels but we're sure you'll find it exceptional for the flavors it holds and the stories it tells. Listen carefully and you can hear the Agave whispering your name as it did ours when we blended this batch from 12 separate oak barrels.'

I like accurate Seattle references, not some anachronistic representation of BW being downtown in the market.

Wallingford is cool. North Seattle is cool. I live in North Seattle. Why you gotta crap on North Seattle, Lost Abbey? We don't all live in the Space Needle and throw fish around 24/7 while listening to Nirvana. :slight_frown:

You mean Bottleworks isn't downtown in the Lost Abbey market?

Personally, I like the label. Pike Place Market is one of the iconic images of Seattle. Inserting Bottleworks into that image suggests that Bottleworks is a Seattle institution that's integrated into the fabric of the city. 15 years is a reasonable milestone for pausing to look back over the past, which I think is evoked by the style of the image.

Besides, compared to previous labels, you can tell some extra thought went into this one.
