Never saw this before in New York, but saw it on BA a while back. For some reason I found it intriguing. After purchasing it, I took another look at the reviews and see that it is now "retired" No freshness date on the can.

Anyone know when this monstrosity stop being brewed? I have a feeling this can is old.

Crikey... That's part of the problem when you're partying drunk converted to a beer geek. You never quite shake the drunk side of you. You want to try everything, including high octane vomit in a can.

I "like" the way City Brewing's website doesn't list any of the beers they brew. I had the 12.0 and it was disgusting.

Yea I don't quite get what the deal is with that. All the beers listed on there on this site are from different breweries?

Contract brewers is what City Brewing is.

Oh. So you think I could be getting stuck with an old can?

It could be an old can but in the overall picture, it doesn't matter much. Fresh or old, it's going to be a near/drain pour for most discerning tastes. :grimacing:

Ill bet it tastes like a 4 lokos mixed with cheap lager and booze.

You should never attempt to drink this horse piss swill. Quite possibly the most undrinkable, nastiest beer I've ever had the displeasure of drinking. I only had a couple dollars left on my beer budget so I thought, sweet 12% big ass can, let's do it. Oh my, huge mistake...I had to put it back in the freezer a couple times just so I could finish it. There is no proper way to define the nastiness this "beer" becomes as it warms...undrinkable. On the rare occasion I'm looking for a cheap, corner store ice bin beer I will go with Steel Reserve. Still a pretty nasty beer but as long as it's cold it's still ten times better than Earthquake.

That is one of the worst beers I have ever had, absolutely disgusting. I think I still have a can or two left in my fridge in case some moochers stop over, that's about the only thing that beer is good for, that and waking up naked in a dumpster.

Earthquake High Gravity is owned by Phusion Projects, LLC, using the dba of the Drink Four Brewing Co. - marketers of Four Loko. City Brewing Co. is just the contract brewer. According to BA's rules about listing contract beers, it shouldn't be listed under City at all.

As I understand it, they didn't stop brewing it, only reduced the abv down to 8.1%, some time late last year. (I imagine that City puts some sort of date on their canned products, probably Julian coded).

Yeah there had been a thread about it a while back, then re-formulated to make it taste better. It wasn't too bad cold, but as others have lead on it was terrible as it warmed up. My brother and I split one back at Christmas as a joke. Wanted to get one to age to see if it would improve at all, but they must all be gone by now. :-)

What you really need to do is track down some Hurricane High Gravity and do a side by side blind taste test. Make sure to take good notes and post your findings to help the community figure out which is the preferred high gravity lager!
