Has anyone heard anymore info about this? Last info I've seen said it was supposed to release 3/1, but haven't heard much since. Any info would be great!
Jeremy Danner said on twitter mid-March timeframe. I'm looking forward to trying this. I'm glad it's not another coffee stout, even though I love them.
As of this minute, we're looking at a mid-March release date. We don't have an exact date nailed down, but we will definitely post more information as it becomes available on our Twitter feed and Facebook page.
I hope it takes its inspiration from or at least has a resemblance to Coffee Bender. The best balance of coffee flavor, coffee nose & roasted malt/grain out there. Would be great if the ABV was on the lower end of the spectrum too.
According to a tweet from Boulevard just a few minutes ago, this is going to hit the KC area retail shelves and taps next Tuesday (3/19) and will hit other markets soon after.
Even uninfected that beers is....meh. Was funny seeing all the non-beer people freak out over it. And then Rye-on-Rye comes out and they ignore it...lol.
I thought the 2011 when it was fresh was awesome, as the bottle I had wasn't infected(at least at the time, no idea if it was part of the batch or not) and the 2012 seemed to be not near as chocolatey, but still decent. Hell, I even opened a bottle a few months back that was still just ok. Now RoR each year I've had it(2011-2012, I have a few 2013's a friend has stashed for me) have been nothing short of greatness.
5 stops and a trip over the state line into KS... One place had a 1 bottle limit, the next 3 said they won't have it until Thursday. Finally I hopped over into KS and one of my go-to's had a stack of cases at the front desk.
Can't wait to try this beer. Hopefully it hits Iowa shelves before long. For those who try it, let us all know how it is.
I can't add this beer as I haven't rated over 20 beers. I understand the principle of the rule, but I will give you all a rating and copy/paste it in later... First pour into a pint glass from a 750 mL bottle A: [[4/5]] very dark brown walnut color, first pour had a two inch head(!) that slowly rose to 2 1/2 inches (which overflowed from glass). average dissipation of head over 30 secs S: [[3.5/5]] an airy, coffee smell; not overpowering but certainly there. imagine walking down the coffee aisle at your local grocery store with a stopped up nose; you can tell it's coffee and you're also not overwhelmed by it; pleasant toffee smell as well. T: [[4.5/5]] it's just good, solid. can barely taste the 9.2% in this guy. really a good sipping beer, even a little sip will produce the full on flavor. i think i taste some hazelnut too... guy at liquor store said over the course of a day they sold two (2) crates worth (approx 50-75 bottles total) M: [[3/5]] minimal carbonation, longer than typical aftertaste. O: [[4/5]] overall, a solid beer with a punch (flavor-wise and ABV-wise) that doesn't get old after one glass. a great partnership between The Roasterie and Boulevard Brewing! a must try!
My take, 750 ml bottle with cork and wire cage into a shaker pint glass. Appearance: Large off white small bubble head dissipating after about a minuet with minimal effervescence . Color is a dark ruby on first pour but clouds up with sediment further down. Aroma: You guessed it, Coffee, roasty very pleasant and alcohol more pronounced as it warms. Palate: Light mouthfeel without the dark heavy feel of the familiar porter or stout with the coffee flavor pronounced but not bitter. Spices and hops well balanced. Taste: Nice medium bodied to dark coffee without bitter aftertaste of overbrewed coffee. alcohol present but not as strong as the ABV. suggests. Overall: Very good and surprising. I love a good dark stout with coffee/choclate notes, but a light bodied ale with the complex flavors of a good coffee was difficult to pull off but I believe they did a good job, Want that nice coffee note but are not in the mood for a dark heavy stout, this summertime substitute would fill the bill nicely
