I steered clear of the Aztec because I don't care for the style, but the coffee variant was one of the best coffee stouts I've ever had. Damn near perfect.

Really hope this one is easy to get. Smokestack series has been one of the best surprises I've had in a while. I love Saison Brett and Lovechild. This sounds just excellent.

Close to Huna IMO, just not as sweet.

Tart cherry sounds like a winner to me!

Glad to see it wasn't just me...I found the Coffee easily in Muncie, then moved to Indianapolis right before the release of Aztec Chocolate...never even saw the latter. :slight_frown:

Awesome. I love cages on my stout. That means they are VERY GOOD.

Supposedly dropped in KC today. Anyone try it yet? We haven't seen any of the Imperial Stout X series around DC, but I'm thinking about asking a friend in KC to snag me a bottle.

Just picked up several bottles like I do with all smokestack releases

    Boulevard kills my wallet

Early untappd reviews seem pretty positive

I'm sure I'll love it because fanboy

Also bought the tropical pale ale collab between boulevard and cigar city. Great brew

I'm willing to bet their annual partially barrel aged imperial stout got infected, so they added cherries and called it a wrap.

    Good lord that's fucking cynical.

And doesn't really seem to fit with the fact that they announced a change in how they were releasing Imperial Stout at the beginning of the year. Instead of doing the one annual Imp. Stout, they were going to do several variants of the beer, and none of the ones they've released thus far have been barrel aged.

Not to mention the fact that the first two variants released (coffee and aztec) didn't have any characteristics that would suggest infection.

Also, this doesn't seem to jive with the fact that Boulevard has always been very forthcoming when they have discovered that an infected beer ended up hitting the market (see: one Chocolate Ale batch from 2012 and Imperial Stout from 2011)

But yeah, bet away, I guess.

Not a huge fan of Boulevard but I am a huge fan of what Boulevard does. These guys have the best looking foot print in the US, next to The Bruery and their viewpoint of the top, which is fancy. Boulevard widely distributes so many styles of beers, including barrel-aged beers, which shuts guys like me up in that niche on this site. If I had to pick, BBQ would be my got-to, its a masterpiece of a quad and The Sixth Glass ages so well at its base; great label, as well. Tell-Tale Tart is also perfect on the pallet. I hope to see your beers keep the cage and cork or big bottle format and when the time is right, like the holidays, move into a tad higher ABV percentages along side variants like Tart cherry or Aztec chocolate or Coffee and Cinnamon. Anyway, I appreciate Boulevard and this variant and have welcomed you guys in Florida since you landed with CCB rolling the rug out for ya. You're doin' it right from Missouri. @TheJermis

Love Boulevard but the Aztec and Coffee were really bad. Let's hope this is on par with other Boulevard beers.

You'd lose that bet. The base beer for Imperial Stout X - Tart Cherry isn't barrel aged and we've been planning a year of variations since the end of last year.

Definitely going to be grabbing this as long as it makes it to VA (had to grab the Aztec in NC). I finally opened an Aztec last weekend and thought it was pretty great. I'm contemplating my initial thought on aging the other bottle I have because I really don't want the heat to drop off from where it was. I really don't get the folks saying it was the worst beer ever or tasted like "nail polish remover" - maybe there were some bad bottles or something but the one I had certainly wasn't.
