Calvados beer geek brunch is stupid good.
Mikkeller George! in Calvados was quite nice.
Apple Brandy Hunaphu was absurd, though impossible to track down these days.
Coronado made a Brandy Barleywine a few years ago that was nice as well.
I think my current favorite though, is To Ol Liquid Confidential in Cognac Barrels. Just amazing.
Lost Abbey Angel's Share Brandy Barrel (as long as you don't mind an undercarbonated beer)
I had a brandy barrel Sexy Betty last year - not worth the trouble to track down (in other words, no better than the usual beer, which is fine)
I also had a couple of others that were draft only in San Diego - again, interesting, but they didn't seem to add a lot to the base beer.
Many people will disagree but my favorite of the 4 elf varieties was the brandy barrel. Loved it. I believe it was a 1-time release in 2013, but I know people still have it. Keep an eye out and maybe the next release will be a brandy barrel again.
Had a Brandy Barrel Aged TenFidy some time back that was sublime!
You can't get it in CA unless you trade for it, but Anthem Brandy-Barrel Uroboros is by far the best I've had. I've already gone through a couple bottles and I've got 2 more sitting at the moment.
willing to trade?
To be precise: The new CS Pierre Ferrand Billionaire. Just found a bottle and am excited to try this tomorrow!
Apple Brandy Mexican Cake is probably a top 10 beer for me!
Is is the same beer, or did they change it a bit?
its really good. I prefer it to the original billionaire, and im not a big barleywine person either
Far as I know, and correct me if I'm wrong...
Almanac's Heirloom Pumpkin barleywine was brandy barrel
There was a Beer Geek Brunch Weasel aged in brandy barrels
Captain Lawrence's Golden Delicious is aged in apple brandy barrels
JW Lees has aged their Harvest Ale in brandy barrels
Prairie has the made the best that I've had so far.
I heard they also only sold to bars in some areas, meaning nothing for stores. I am still on the hunt for a bottle.
Ah I see...not sure if it'll help any but got mine at Beer Thirty in Soquel around mid-March
I believe it is the same but aged in different barrels. Will rate over the weekend after trying...
Looking Glass from Founder's. DIPA aged in brandy barrels for a while. So good, but stupid hard to find.
THIS x1,000! Brandy Old stock is the champion of brandy barrel aged beers. Not to mention that it is a shelf turd that lingers around for while due to the high pricepoint. @maxifunk777
Agree with a lot of those mentioned already. Also...
Bruery Cognac Sucre
Anchorage/Crooked Stave Collab Between the Staves
Gargoyle love song from Clown shoes is a stout aged in Cognac Barrels and the best Brandy barrel beer I have had was a 2012 Imperial eclipse stout from 50/50. Best Apple brandy beer I had was Trickery from Hardywood.
Tough to find, but I really enjoyed Oxbow's Infinite Darkness - http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26439/126736/ ... I am, however, a sucker for anything in apple brandy barrels. Night Shift just released http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28609/174106/ too, which while it isn't real well regarded here, is probably easy to trade for.
Damn, how come I haven't heard of that Bravery beer?? Sounds awesome.
Did it get distro or brewery only?
Brandy barrels are hit or miss for me.
Brandy 4 Elf was AMAZINGLY good, however.
Came to post this.
Bill's next to Dodger Stadium has a decent supply left of Brandy Barrel Shroud. $16.99/bottle, not so bad.
Stellar beer, for sure!
Good looking out!!! thank you
I've only had three that I remember, but each has been terrific.
Prairie ABB Noir
Brandy Barrel Old Stock - My personal favorite.
ABB Mexican Cake
No, but I had this one: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23031/122096/ and it was fantastic. Not sure of bottle availability since I had it on-tap but, if you ever see it, I highly recommend it.
Agree with others who've said Billionaire and AB Noir.
Another I'd add, but have not had but a sip yet is JK's Coquetier http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24018/169448/
Have a bottle I'm waiting to open.
Couldn't think of 'em offhand, but after checking my rated beers, Brandy Barrel Ten Fidy was incredibly delicious. Also, it was aged on more than just Apple Brandy barrels, but Funky Buddha's Triple Tripel was great as well.
I've wanted to try pretty much all of the brandy barrel aged beers everyone's mentioned so far & slowly getting closer to tracking down a few of them..and now have a couple more to look for TY..
Best one I have had so far was the Apple Brandy Barrel Two To The Dome from 3 Stars Brewery in DC. Their Two To The Dome Double IPA is great on its own but after being aged in the apple brandy barrels it became amazing. Still to this day every time I have a glass of Dome my mouth starts watering thinking of that apple brandy dome
Not sure how many are still around but Cognac barrel Church on a Hill (Cigar City) was ridiculous.
I live like 4 miles from Bravery and I've had Brandy Barrel Aged Gunny's Choice on tap. It's a Belgian Quad. Not sure if they bottle it but it was damn good.
It isn't on Cellar Reserve 2011's level, but Cognac Barrel Scotch Silly was pretty tasty.
Bruery Bois Brandy, Prairie Apple Brandy Noir
I'll also put in a good word for the Bravery Shroud in brandy barrels. Just had a bottle earlier this week, and it was delicious. It did have some limited distribution in the region, not brewery only, so there may still be some hanging out on a shelf somewhere.
Billionaire is still my favorite that I've had so far, though.
I agree totally Bois Brandy was excellent I had it at the Bruery taproom.
I picked up some Bravery Batch #100 Barleywine aged in Brandy Barrels. I'll report back what I think of that as well.
AB Black Magick
AB Mexican Cake
