We've talked about it, here we go:

I'll start with @Lupin 's last couple of posts:

    July 17th-
Busy couple weeks for CT. A couple places definitely ahead of my expectations.

Tribus (Milford) kegs went out.. Launch party with an IPA and DIPA tomorrow at Eli's (5:30-7:30) and bar 333 (7:30-9:30) in Milford on Friday. I should be at 333 for a bit. They won't open the taproom until August.

Labyrinth (Manchester) posted a bunch of bags of malt on IG and did a test batch last week. They should be open late next month or early September.

Norbrook Farm (Colebrook) is still testing equipment.

Niantic public house (duh) is still doing interior work.

Problem Solved (Windsor) put their first beer (a milk stout) in the tanks on 7/15.

East Rock Brewing (New Haven) put their first beer (a pilsner) in the tanks on 7/13 or 7/14, but it looks like they'll be distribution only to start in roughly 3 weeks.

Woodbury (duh) poured their first beer (a pale ale) on 7/20.

    August 1-
Little House Brewing (Chester) brewed their first batches ~7/20, expected opening in mid/late August.
Litle Red Barn: putting a roof on, no other progress..
Housatonic River Brewing (New Milford) said they hoped to start brewing last week. expected opening late August. Opening day will be announced soon.
Labyrinth (Manchester) brewed their first batch today.

    August 7-
    Tribus (Milford) opens Saturday, 8/11.
Little House Brewing (Chester) has filled all of their fermenters. Should be opening soon.
Housatonic River Brewing (New Milford) no updates other than interior stuff. They will be announcing their soft opening soon according to FB.
Labyrinth (Manchester) has brewed multiple batches and is "looking at late august" for an opening

    And August 13-
Tribus opened. I went and the space is nice and large. The beers were all fine, except for the brett IPA. There must have been a bad keg, because it tasted like pool water and half of the untappd reviews were normal, while the rest mirrored my experience. Looking forward to visiting again sometime soon when the crowds quiet down.. It's less than two miles from me, which is nice.

2nd Bridge brewing also opened in Manchester, CT over the weekend.

Labyrinth (Manchester) is doing a soft open for their mug club members on August 25th.

Noble Jay (Niantic) is doing a kickstarter opening on August 25th and public opening the following day.

Norbrook Farm (Colebrook) is shooting for a labor day weekend opening.

Housatonic River Brewing (New Milford) is brewing their first batch today.

East Rock Brewing (New Haven) bottled their first batch yesterday.

    And away we go...

And for what it's worth, I pulled into Housatonic River brewing the other day because I was in town and they don't look close to opening, windows were still painted over, the sign for The Tack was still there, etc. But who knows. They've definitely done a lot with the space though- expanded parking lot, remodeled building, etc. Great improvement over what was there. I have an office in New Milford that I'm at about once a week so hoping for good things.

And I drove down to Bad Dreams, just to see where it is- and it's an odd location, mashed in between a couple big box stores, seems kind of cold, but maybe they made the inside cozy enough to forget about the mall-like exterior.

    Just some observations....

Right down the road from my house, "Hops on the Hill" in South Glastonbury is shooting for a Spring of 2019 opening. They are renovating an old tobacco barn and plan to include a farmer's market, featuring fresh, local products, and a farm-style brewery with a tasting room.
    It's quite a nice spot

Yup, very interesting. Owner/brewer worked at Jack's Abby for many years. He wants to focus on German beer styles.

"Don’t look for any esoteric styles at East Rock Brewing Co.

“I wanted to bring more of those traditional styles of beer here to Connecticut. ... The bulk of the beer we will produce is going to be very approachable types of lagers and wheat beers,” he said.

He said the company plans to be get back to the basics of brewing, producing a high quality brew and a style that will appeal to a wide demographic."

We were driving through Norfolk yesterday so I looked up Norbrook Farm, they're not open yet, but they are definitely brewing.

A reply to a post 10 days ago indicates they're shooting for Labor Day opening, depending on town approvals...

There's a spot called Nolo that's seemingly ready to open on 687 State Street in New Haven. The building was owned by my dad's business Jet Cleaners forever until he moved last year and now it seems to be some sort of joint venture between Da Legna restaurant and Erector Brewing. They've got a bunch of tanks and the building has been redone and looks nice. Can't really find any definitive answers on social media about when it'll open its doors though.

Yeah, these are the peeps with mysterious social media presence that I was ranting about the other week. If it's intentional, it's dumb, if it's unintentional, then it's just bad.

    Now open:
    Labyrinth Brewing (Manchester)
    Little House Brewing Company (Chester)
    Noble Jay (Niantic)

Let's go through the full list on the CT Beer Trail Passport, shall we? Asterisks on those that have a shot at opening before the end of October:

Bear Hands (Danielson): No updates. Guessing early winter.

Better Half Brewing (Bristol): No updates. LOL that the first link on google is them, the rest are for other half. Their kickstarter was less than 25% funded ($40k asked). On 8/19 they were on WFSB and said they haven't ordered equipment and were still working on funding.

Boondoggle Beers (Hartford): Continues to contract at Shebeen and grow their distribution. No updates on their own location, despite their website saying they'll keep us updated.

Center Street Brewing Co. (Wallingford): Construction has not yet begun and they have ~0 social media presence.

Coles Road Brewing (Cromwell): No updates. Still looks like a winter opening.

Concentric Brewing (Berlin): Said in a FB reply that they would have an update on opening an actual brewery in a "couple weeks" five weeks ago. Does not appear to have a location.

Dockside (Milford): No updates. Looks like they have a decent amount of money behind them. I'm guessing they just want to be open for summer 2018.

Dudleytown Brewing (Windsor): This spring, they were hoping to open "later this year." They will not.

***East Rock Brewing Company (New Haven): They've posted hours and still plan to open this month.

Erector Brewing Collective (New Haven): The aforementioned place in Nolo. No updates.
Great Falls Brewing (Canaan): Contracting at the Beeracks right now. Buildout is progressing, but no tanks yet. Would guess winter/spring for them.

Hop Culture Farms (Colchester): Their kickstarter was funded last month, but there's no real signs of progress. Maybe now that the harvest is over they'll focus on the brewery. I just want this place to open so I have an excuse to go to Cato Corner.

Hopmeadow Brewing (Avon): Pretty much no updates. Hop harvest looks good, though.

***Housatonic River Brewing (New Milford): 9/21 planned opening per FB post on 8/31.

Little Red Barn Brewers (Winsted): Cutting drains as of today. No equipment. Another winter/spring opening?

***Maple View Farm (Granby): They haven't posted any equipment photos, but they seem to be brewing and I wouldn't be surprised if they open before the end of the year.

***Niantic Public House and Brewery (East Lyme): No updates but my guess would be within 4 weeks.

***Norbrook Farm Brewery (Colebrook): Had some code delays but they should be open within 6 weeks.

***Problem Solved Brewing (East Windsor): Soft opening is 9/15.

Reverie Brewing (Newtown): Concrete/drain work done. No equipment. Looks like late winter/spring. Best logo out of all the unopened breweries.

Skygazer Brewing (Southington): They got a brewhouse and tanks last week. Late fall/early winter.

Tox Brewing (New London): Still waiting on equipment. These dudes seem fun. No estimate.

Walnut Mountain Brewery (Torrington): Website says "Fall of 2018" but I say "do you actually want people to know about your brewery? Get a damn FB/IG/Anything post up."

You might know this already, but the "Dutch Farmstead" cheese and the more aged version of it "Block's Landing" go amazingly well with an IPA

Here's another one: White Porch in Manchester (says taproom in downtown). So 6 months ago, there were zero breweries in Manchester, now there will be 4. Flew under the radar, not on Steve's (CTMQ) list either. Opening winter maybe.

I just read that a couple of minutes ago.

I hope they're doing all this expansion out of cash flow and not taking on too much debt, ala Smuttynose. When the great big craft beer contraction comes, the survivors are going to be the small, relatively debt-free, local microbreweries and the big macros with captive distribution. The mid-market wannabes who took out floating rate notes are going to get chewed up and spat out.

No updates this week, but I did get out to 2nd Bridge and Labyrinth yesterday and Noble Jay a couple weeks ago.

Noble Jay had a super friendly tap room and they started off with some older school choices for beers. Apparently they got a C&D and couldn't sell any of their T-shirts until they replaced the bird's cane with a mash paddle. Was refreshing to see a list that wasn't 50% APA/IPA, but the beer was hit or miss.

2nd bridge was tiny and I seem to recall the stairs seeming precarious.. Had a total black pond vibe from the outside, but the dartboards in the first room are a nice touch. Had four tasters here, the best of which was the the Ole 26, which was a nice hybrid old/new IPA. Porter was also good.. The Conan NE IPA needed some work, though. Nice spot to hit on the way back from upstate/MA stops. Friendly service, chatty workers, good vibe.

Labyrinth had a much more "professional" layout. Tried the Siren's song gose.. It was good, but a little mild, even though I could taste it on my burps for the next hour. Erebus was a solid oatmeal stout, and the Turbo Love Juice was alright, but seemed a little flavorless in the finish. They said the recipe is being tweaked (one would hope this is the case at every brewery that opens). They seemed to have a set of regular clientele for a place that's been open a couple weeks. Staff was also friendly. Would go back!

Not sure if it's worthy of a sticky, but I did manage to update my CT brewery map. Trying to get everything in there that's open (including cideries/brewpubs).

Curious: Do you guys think there are too many breweries in CT? Or about to be too many breweries? Lots of chatter in other places that say specifically: the local brewery bubble in CT is about to burst.

I have an opinion, but interested in what everyone else thinks. Some will say quality wins. Some will say location wins. Will some breweries close in 2019 as many more open? (I think there were 2 closings in the past 5 years?)

I have certainly lost track of breweries opening, but that's mostly because I don't care as much as I used to coupled with the quiet nature a lot of the new places have taken on in regards to opening.

I don't think it's a problem right now. I think communities can rally around and support a brewery. There are still parts of the state that, if you add another brewery, would complete a real nice brewery day trip type thing. But it can fill up fast...look at Manchester. They all of a sudden will have four breweries! There's strength in that if folks want to spend a day hitting up beer spots though.

I don't consider these new small breweries as being breweries, they are bars that brew their own beer. So the question should be, are there too many bars in CT? And the answer is probably no.

Now if these breweries were all production breweries fighting for shelf space at package stores and/or relying on to go sales from their facilty, then yes, there are too many.

Problem Solved is open, popped in earlier after dropping my daughter off at the bubble. I didn’t realize they were in the old spot of Broad Brook, actually I forgot Broad Brook moved and thought I was going there. Anyway, I showed up 10 mins to closing and had one of their NEIPAs, it was ok, room for improvement but I’ll give them benefit of the doubt for only being open a week.
